The one I can see the smoke from is out on cooper point. I can see the smoke from my office in downtown. I'm not sure of the address, someone on the Olympia said it was near "Anchor Lane above the bay."

The second one was a little earlier today in Lacey near Hawks Praire Golf Club

King5 has a video:

It says it was at this address:

5538 Crestview Loop NE

Let's hope no one was hurt.

NE Lacey

Not Cooper Point.  About 2 miles SW of Tolmie State park.  Nobody was home.

WOW 2 fires then...

Ok the smoke I'm seeing must be from another fire. Cause it's definitely on Cooper point. Looks like it's near french road.

Ahh

I'm just past 14th on Cooper Point and am starting to see and smell the smoke.

The one on Crestview was where my in-laws live

The fire crews were amazing- really helped my mom-in-law. All that is left, literally, are 3 walls. No floors. Nothing. Everyone is okay, but 45 years of marriage, it will be months of "oh my god, we lost ________". Special thanks to Thomas Tree Company who had a crew working near by. Two guys tried to hose down the house but it went so quick. Only one other house was minorly damaged.

That's horrible loss. I'm glad everyone is ok.

How awful!

That must be devastating. I hope they have good insurance, but, of course, there are so many things that money can't replace. I hope their pets all got out okay. Do they have any idea how it started? My condolences to your in-laws, Katherine. Did your husband grow up in that house?

I lost my Grandparents to a fire in January '95. Most of the heirlooms survived. I would have been happy to have every last memorable thing in their condo lost only for them to have made it.

I hope your family will be able to rebuild their lives without too much trauma or trouble.

Shake and Bake

In 1965 we lost our farmhouse to fire. It was such a surreal experience to walk through the rubble of a place in the evening that had been our sanctuary that very morning. It was grotesque. It was overwhelming. It was a primal jab in the eye.

But, in the end, it was a good thing. Our family bonded closer as we made a decision not be victims but to rebuild. We had shared a traumatic experience and used that as a springboard instead of a wedge. We learned who our friends were. We learned that material possessions are worth diddly squat.

And, most importantly, we kept our sense of humor. A month after we lost the house, the 6.5 earthquake of 1965 hit this area. So we called ourselves members of the Shake and Bake Club.

The residents who lost their homes have my empathy. My wish is that your disaster has the same positive results as I experienced.

We said the same thing in LA

I was 11 during the 1994 quake in LA. Our house was also pretty destroyed, the foundation cracked, the gas lines broke, the frame skewed. It is a distinct experiance to walk through your life turned into rubble and chaos.

My condolences to the families, is there anything we Olybloggers can do?

The most amazing thing

is that my in-laws have only lived here a few years, and yet the goodness of people who they only are aquainted with or only know through their children has been overwhelming. Now that we are a few days apart from the fire, we are all feeling less numb. Thank you to everyone who has had to deal with the trauma of losing everything- or worse- for sharing perspective. We are so thankful no one was injured. Now, for the deluge of insurance agents!
