2008 Capital Lakefair Fireworks from John Koch on Vimeo.

Thanks

Very nice work my friend, thank you for the post! Scott Westerback

Thank You!

I was hoping that the upload would look better. I need to tweak my compression settings for the next upload. - John

I dabble w/vids too

I like how the frames changed subtly, I use adobe premier but am only able to use the most basic features. That vid you made could use some nice music over it, maybe over dubing a few explosions off there from a synth. Anyway, fun stuff thanks again! Scott

Cool.

Whad'ya shoot that with?

A Sony XDCAM EX-1 in 720p24,

A Sony XDCAM EX-1 in 720p24, F2.8. I played around with some of the picture profile settings to help enhance the color. This was a fairly quick edit, and I'll probably put a little more polish on it before it airs. I was excited to try out the Vimeo service though, since they support HD footage.

Thanks

Missed it this year for the first time in I don't know when. Nice to see some live action shots.

Just think how great the view will be from the condos.

You really think Lakefair will be around

once the new upscale housing hits the market? By then I'm betting the city will have concluded that Lakefair no longer serves the best interests of the community.
»

C'mon Jim

You don't see the irony of how great the views will be FROM the condos? I think it's hilarious.
»

Sorry, Rob. I didn't see the irony.

My view must have been blocked by the stack of upscale-friendly council decisions I imagine in our future.
»

Why are you anti-kittens and puppies?

Don't you want downtown to be a nice place for the kittens and puppies of the world?
»

Quit hijacking my thread!

I realize that we all have strong feelings about the condos and whatnot, but this is a little post about some nice fireworks. If anyone would like to discuss fireworks, compression schemes, the inherent difficulty in filming a subject that you have no idea where it's going to be, all while being dangerously close to a 9 story fall, I'm game. Thanks for your understanding! -John
»

You're right.

I apologize.
»

My bad. Sorry.

Perhaps multiple cameras next time with overlapping fields of view so you don't miss anything. Then you can just enjoy the fireworks and not worry about falling 9 stories. Or perhaps just two cameras: one staionary wide angle and another for panning around to catch specacular close-ups. Would be fun to edit.
»

No problem.

Yeah, I'd have liked to have multiple cameras, but we only have one HD camera. It was a rather spontaneous production. I wasn't too worried about falling; I stayed a good 10 feet back from the edge. It was scary to peer over, though.

Let me guess...

...Mac?
»

Yep.

Final Cut Pro, although there's nothing too tricky going on.

Thank you very much
