Cindy Sheehan became famous in 2004. After the death of her son Casey (during his performance of military service in Iraq) she challenged the President Bush's assertions that her son, and so many others who have died, sacrificed their lives for a noble cause. Sheehan set up camp near the Crawford, Texas Ranch of President Bush. She attempted to gain audience with the President in order to challenge his assertions directly, and to seek redress for her grievous loss. After more than four years, President Bush still denies this Gold Star Mother a chance to meet.

In 2007 the Bush Administration decided to commute the prison sentence of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby (the former Chief of Staff to Vice President Cheney). Libby had been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for his behavior relating to the investigation, and his role in the affair, of the outing of Valerie Plame as an undercover CIA operative (she was working on Middle East WMD no less). In response, Sheehan announced her intention to run for the Congress of the United States of America. In August 2007, she announced her candidacy; she is running as an Independent Candidate against the current Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Sheehan's decision to directly challenge Pelosi stems in large part from what is perceived as Pelosi's failure to introduce articles of impeachment for members of the Bush Administration. Sheehan believes impeachment is necessary based on the wide variety and huge volume of easily accessible evidence that supports the conclusion that members of the Bush Administration have committed impeachable offenses (leading the nation to a war predicated on lies, among others).

It's important to add that there will be an opportunity for impeachment in a new Congress. The potential exists because the new Congress will be instated two weeks prior to the Bush Administration exit from office. So, if there is a failure in current Congressional efforts to investigate members of the Bush Administration for impeachable offenses, there is still hope that the new Congress will hold members of the Bush Administration accountable (prior to official egress.)

Cindy Sheehan will be in Olympia, Washington this Sunday, June 8th, 2008 at the South Puget Sound Community College Center for the Arts, Minnaert Auditorium. You can support Ms. Sheehan in her bid for Congress by attending! Tickets prices are a recommended donation from $10 to $25 (and up to $2300 per candidate per election cycle), students $5. Advance tickets are available for purchase at Traditions. And if you would like to attend a dinner reception at Plenty Restaurant prior to the speaking event, please call (360) 705-3528 for reservations.

Also speaking will be: Gary Murrell, Green Party candidate for US Congress, who will challenge Congressman Norm Dicks for the Washington State 6th Congressional District Seat in the House of Representatives; and the prominent impeachment advocate Linda Boyd. So get excited and get ready to help elect representatives who will do what is necessary to move this government in the right direction!
