Hello all -

I may soon be setting up a fairly simple (well let's hope so) web site for a non-profit as yet to be formed.

Would those of you with experience with this please offer advice on services you've used, local vs. out-of-town, small vs. large, cheap vs. not so cheap. I'm willing to hear it all, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Post here for all to view or send PM.

Thanks and blessings +

Paul

roll your own

Hola, the ENA uses WordPress on a donated server.

I have heard that Dreamhost is free for nonprofits...

...I'm also a big fan of TechSoup

OlyBlog is a Drupal installation hosted by Zhonka.

...so there are lots of ways to go--

--best of luck, and please contact me if you'd like help or need a "brainstorm session".

Hey, thanks

Looks like good advice from all corners. I've heard and seen here many compliments on Zhonka. And I'll check out these other avenues. I'll let y'all know how it turns out and will share more on this organization as it develops.

Chad, I'll take you up on the brainstorming offer soon. Thanks.

Not PM Worthy

I was going to send this PM but I think I should post for all to see.

You can't go wrong with Zhonka.  Minimal prices and local service.  Not fans of Windows (I work for MSFT) but they know their stuff.  You'd be remissed not to give them a shot.  See if they meet your needs.  And, this is coming from a guy who works for Microsoft.

My uncle owns J&I Power Equipment and I've convinced them to change from a California outfit to Zhonka.  We haven't yet made the cutover but I'm impressed with their offering and plan to migrate once the current contract expires.

Ask Rick to get you Nat's info and you should be all set.

Be wary of hosts that offer

Be wary of hosts that offer to set everything up for you. You should register your own domain name via a site like GoDaddy.com. This way you keep control of your domain. I had an incident with a host on my first website and ended up losing my domain name.

saythissaythat - a local design firm

You should give the guys at http://www.saythissaythat.com/ a ring. They're local and competitive with their rates.
