Well, 4th dimension is no longer able to sell mac's. I was seriously considering putting $600 on my credit card to buy a new mac mini. Since I lost the local link I have been looking around and realizing that I can build a pretty nice pc for the same price....but I'd really like a mac. I think Apple is shooting themselves in the foot by making their entry level computer so expensive. So my question, to all of you, does anyone know of a company that sells used mac's? I've been looking around online, without much luck. Unfortunately the ones I've found are almost as much as a brand new one.

refurbished

Apple's online store often has some great deals on refurbished equipment. A buddy of mine has gotten a lot of different things and has been happy with all of them...

Yeah, the Apple online store.

You usually pay at least $200 less for a machine that is filled with extra RAM and other goodies. A really great value.

I've tried the online store.

It's great for higher end items, but not for the mac mini's. I'm going to keep checking, but all they have right now is their high end mac mini ($799) going for $649. The one I want is $599 brand new. If I wanted an imac or mac pro I'd be in business. It seems ridiculous to drop a grand on a mac when I could build a great pc for the same price. I'd really like to dink around with one and learn about them, but Steve isn't making it easy on first time buyers, as far as I'm concerned. :(

You may have to drive to an Apple Store.

Check online for the closest one.

Tukwilla apparently. Oh

Tukwilla apparently. Oh well, I'll keep shopping ebay and hope for a break. Mac users really love their macs, and letting go of them doesn't seem to happen often.

I purchased a refurbished Powerbook G4 2 years ago from Apple online. It was expensive compared to a PC. But I will say this: I will never use a PC again unless I have to. And I do have to use a PC once a month to submit my invoice to WA State for the contract work I do because the software is not Apple compatible. The Dell laptop I have to use is slow, it does things I don't want it to do, the virus software takes over and won't let me do anything until it's done, etc, and it's just as old as my Apple. I have completely reconfigured my computer life so that everything I use on a daily basis is now Apple. I plan on getting a refurbished iMac in the next few months. I have absolutely no regrets switching. The 3 Dells my wife and I own sit in a closet.

I appreciate the feedback

I hate being skeptical, but it's a big investment.

education discount?

Hiya Norm (and the whole OlyBlog posse),

Wow, you & me both!

>so bummed about Apple's move...liked the local support at 4D<

E & I got our Apple stuff by using the educational staff/student discount offer--

On the PC side, I like Asus & Shuttle XPCs, if I was gonna build a box for myself I'd look at a Shuttle or a basic mid or full tower based on a Asus--
