On Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, the term "hyperlocal" now redirects to "Local News". I noticed a list of examples of hyperlocal blogs and have added OlyBlog.

Is this a soap opera? Will there be soon be an Olympia - Tacoma joint postmark? Stay tuned.

I love the Olympian title of this article:

"Squabble erupts over postmark, Effort to save Olympia symbol caught in capital machinations."

Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to get their budget passed. It looks like they may not have the votes. Raw Story has more on this.

You are invited to share a hope for peace this Veterans Day with four Evergreen veterans.
Evergreen's Veterans Day Commemoration
Friday, Noon to 1:30
Sem 2, A-1105 (Open the attached flyer for details.)

Come hear three Evergreen students, combat veterans of Iraq, Kuwait and Bosnia, and a Vietnam veteran faculty member as they revisit their experiences and challenge us with their views on "Support Our Troops", a phrase that has been trivialized and politicized.

Congress originally established Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I with "thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations." In 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day, and President Eisenhower asked all Americans to "... reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace."

From the Daily Astorian:

SEAVIEW, Wash. Most of the attention given to Lewis and Clark is focused on their voyage of discovery. Playwright Bryan Willis recalls the epic story with his two-man production, "Lewis and Clark and the End of the World," performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the historic Sou'wester Lodge in Seaview, Wash.

Willis' play is concerned with an interior journey, one of friendship, despair and ultimately death. Just three years after the famous expedition, 35-year-old Meriwether Lewis died in ignominy. He was en route to Washington, D.C., to defend himself against charges of embezzlement and incompetence as the governor of the Louisiana Territory, even his patriotism had been questioned. His health precarious, his personal finances in shambles, he reportedly paced outside the remote inn in which he was staying, shouting for whiskey, yelling at unseen, perhaps imaginary enemies, and calling out for his friend and co-captain William Clark.

The play dramatizes Lewis' last hour, as he relives, with an imagined William Clark, events that took place during their historic expedition. As the two men converse on serious and trivial matters, the differences between them and their deep affection for each other becomes plain. "The relationship between the two captains," says the playwright, "is the greatest buddy story of all time."

This intimate, searching drama is the third play by acclaimed Northwest playwright Bryan Willis to be hosted by the Sou'wester in its series of cultural events. His two previous plays, "Edgar Allen Poe" and "Sophie" drew applause from packed houses. A full-time playwright, Willis lives with his wife and son in Olympia, Wash. His work has been performed throughout England and Scotland, in New York and in regional theaters across the U.S. and Canada, and on BBC and NPR."
