On Thursday, January 26th the Housing Authority of Thurston County is staging this years' homeless census. I have taken on coordinating the efforts in downtown Olympia. This information is critical for us to have as the county forms it's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. Past censuses have been informative, but not as accurate as we'd have liked due to a lack of coverage.
» I currently have a need for volunteers to go out into the community and fill out forms with people. The information collected is only used for the purpose of providing statistics and in the future will serve as a measuring stick to gauge the effectiveness of the ten-year plan. No identifying information will be collected. If anyone is interested in helping out please call me at 359.3293, or leave me a message on this site.

Just discovered this web site Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone. They are covering armed conflicts around the world. The philosophy of the crew and the resulting reports are fascinating.

From the Olympian:
In actual fact, the reason the unemployment number is so low is that anyone without a job is so depressed by this weather that they are huddled in the fetal position in bed and are unable to apply for benefits, thereby skewing the statistics.
