Conversations about the choices we make in every aspect of our lives: from inner peace (how we think of ourselves), to community peace (how we take care of those around us), to world peace (how we treat those who believe, look or act different than ourselves).

Each month we will focus on one aspect of life, from the very personal to the very global. Topics to include, but not limited to: veteran’s issues: dispute resolution techniques; compassionate (non-violent) communication; how the federal, state and local budgets affect peace; police vs. peace-keepers; road rage; and Peace Scouts (adults & children learning co-operatively about peace issues).

Together we will hear from 2 or 3 speakers on a subject, from their point of view. This will last no more than ½ hour, or so. We will then entertain a conversation amongst ourselves on the issue.

Monuments to Peace:

Jo Ann Mitchell Young – Jo Ann and others say, “Join us in planning, designing and building a structure dedicated to a culture of peace for the children of Washington State and the world.

Lisle Ellis & Di Terra

Evergreen State College Recital Hall Olympia

Co-presented with TESC Music Dept.

Lisle Ellis

lisleellis.jpg Lisle Ellis' work as a bassist over the past thirty years has placed him in the realm of leading contemporary improvising musicians. He played a pioneering role in the development of improvised music in his native Canada and shortly after relocating to the United States in the early 1990's he rose to prominence on the world stage. Ellis' numerous recordings for international labels such as Black Saint, DIW, and Hat Art attests to the strength of his artistry. He has participated in a multitude of world wide performances with leading individuals including Peter Brotzman, Marylin Crispell, Dave Douglas, and Myra Melford as well as being a member of visionary groups such as The Cecil Taylor Unit, The Paul Bley Trio, and the Glenn Spearman Double Trio.

From The Olympian:

Weird Oly history

So New Year's is coming up, and I think that after I've lost 50 pounds, quit smoking and brought about world peace, I'd like to learn more about state and local history. As an Oregonian by schooling, I've got a lot of background in Western migration and Portland's quirks, but I don't know much of the magic in Olympia's past. Luckily, I know the place to start: Evergroove Trivia, hosted by the local lefties at OlyBlog, will remind lifers and inform newcomers of our capital city's serial killer connections, and the college's unnofficial mascots and uncoventional dedication ceremony. It's got a heavy Evergreen history bent, but it's a good window on the roots of Olympia culture.

Lefties?... Could he be talking about TFI and DD?

 From HeraldNet:

Progressive bloggers are coming to Olympia this Friday to widen their portal of communication with Democratic lawmakers.

They plan face-to-face meetings with legislators to let them know they have friends in high-speed places capable of disseminating their messages and those of their party.

Just look to last fall's elections. Bloggers claim a sustained online campaign against Initiative 912 - the anti-gas tax measure - played a role in its defeat.

And they'll cite a blogger's creation, www.jeffsaxfacts.com, as a factor in the unseating of the incumbent Republican Snohomish County councilman.

This event (and I've been invited to participate) spotlights how some of those in Washington's blogosphere seek greater visibility in the state's politics.

That began soon after the 2004 election for governor, when right-thinking bloggers provided emotional fuel and rhetorical fodder for those seeking a revote between Republican Dino Rossi and Democrat Christine Gregoire.

Issues debated in subsequent online conversations seeped into the legislative agendas of Republicans, which earned coverage by the mainstream media.
