One important idea (among many) that I left Amy Goodman's appearance at the North Thurston Performing Arts Center (a fundraiser for TCTV and KAOS as part of her new book tour) with was how we in America see a much different picture of the events in Iraq than those around the world. More specifically we see different pictures (photographs) of the war in Iraq. We see pictures of husky, healthy troops - Not caskets. We see pictures of living Iraqis, not the vast swaths of the dead.
» This is a problem, and we have an opportunity to rectify the situation here, on the internet. I say, show us the pictures. Show us the death, the rotten death, that our tax dollars enable. The problem is that it is even difficult to find these pictures on the internet. Google has actively cooperated with the Chinese government to censor its citizens access to the internet. How far have they (quietly) gone to censor and restrict the access of Americans to the Internet? I am having trouble finding what I would consider to be unrestricted pictures of the estimated 655,000 Iraqis who have died as a result of the US invasion. AHA - and GO FIGURE use a different search engine (altavista), and PRESTO! of course this doesn't guarantee conspiracy to restrict access on the part of google, but it does make you think.

The OFS is spending the week preparing for the 23rd Olympia Film Festival and consequently has no movies playing until the festival begins.
» No movie this week, blog Brotherhood, drink, music will suffice instead.

It was a paintball attack, so probably not much real harm. Guess that depends on how much effort it takes to get the paint scrubbed off the walls and car.
» What does it mean? I don't know. I guess it means I will be out tonight with soap, water and scrubbrush to see how easily the stuff comes off. None of the other homes or cars in the neighborhood were hit that I could see.

I'd never heard of this practice before.
» Wikipedia: In music, Pay to Play describes when a band pays a promoter for the opportunity to play at a certain live show, instead of being paid for their performance. Most often a band would do this in an attempt to increase exposure. This is a heavily criticized practice, most famously alleged to occur amongst local metal bands in the 1980's.Matt Driscoll's piece Big Time Debate Over Pay to Play: On Saturday, Oct. 21, the greatest band in the history of Tacoma (in my humble opinion) — Girl Trouble — was supposed to play the Eagles Hall in Olympia. For fans of the band living in Oly, it was going to be a good day. From the band Girl Trouble: It's hard to believe the area that was responsible for the biggest Do-It-Yourself band/label/club revolution in the US is facing many "pay-to-play" scams. Sadly, it's true. We've recently witnessed several big pay-to-play rackets and gimicky losing Pay-To-Play "Battle of the Bands" contests cropping up in our area, and indeed all over the U.S.
