First meeting today at 3pm @ BRAC – 1009 4th Ave. Today's agenda: voting the union into existence, and deciding what our first action will be.

"I move in a society so devoid of ordinary reality that I am continually stopping to teach good sense, to give support, to help out, as a young gangster might help an old lady across the street on his way to the stick-up."

From www.cnn.com:

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- A Brazilian woman who was shot six times in the head after an altercation with her ex-husband was out of the hospital and talking to the media on Saturday.

"I know this was a miracle," 21-year-old housewife Patricia Goncalves Pereira told Globo TV. "Now I just want to extract the bullets and live my life."

This early morning family and I went down to the Spar for the last breakfast under the original ownership. I'm not sure we needed a meal we'd know was the last one there, but going down ended up being a very good thing.

By the way, the Spar's last day (until it reopens under new ownership) is Sunday, November 26.

Some scenes:

***

Despite not wanting to really make it a "last meal" sort of thing, I order too much, or at least more than I usually would. Eggs Saratoga (hands down my favorite meal there), Spar bread and a chocolate milk shake. The milk shake was for old times sake, I used to go in there as a kid and get those.

Halfway through the meal, I start looking at things and talking about them. Like the old smokers' corner at the end of the counter. Keri says, "Oh, I didn't know this was a reminiscing meal."

***

When we're eating our meal, we start talking about Spar Bread, which has changed in the past five years or so.

Keri: "It used to be very oily, all the way down to the crust"

Emmett: "You could rip it apart, and it would drip on your plate."

Keri: "Too much like real bread now, not oily enough."

Emmett: "One or two percent of heart failures in Olympia could have probably been attributed to Spar Bread."

Keri: "Yeah."

***

Our six month old is pretty sleepy the entire time, but as we get to the back end of the meal, our waitress starts chatting with him while he's in Keri's lap.

Now, a note on this waitress. I recognize here, and she me, but I always get the feeling that she thinks I'm someone else. Someone that comes in to the Spar way more than I actually do. Anyway.

She asks if she can walk around with him, and they deliver change, great customers as they come and have a good time. Picture to come later.

fordPresident Ford will become the oldest president Sunday by living to 93 years and 121 days. Happy milestone, Mr. President! Although I voted for the other guy in '76, I have to say you were the only President in my lifetime who I could easily imagine living next door, and I mean that as a compliment.

I just made a small donation, because I want OlyBlog to prosper (and I don't want Rick to have to shoulder too much of the burden). Amazingly, the pages are loading faster now. Could it be a coincidence? Is it placebo effect? Or is there a higher intelligence in play here.

Could it be the that the Flying Spaghetti Monster has a role in this?

[edit: Donation link is on the left side bar!]
