CNN is (www.cnn.com) projecting some pretty dismal looking number for the GOP. I think I called this one in another thread. Control of the house, 3 more seats ( could be a longshot here ) for the senate. This could be good news politically for some (myself included for most issues ).

It looks like a few more states have jumped on the "ban gay-marriage" bandwagon. Michigan looks to pass a law that says schools cannot use race or gender for application purposes, likewise for employment. Arizona looks to decide english to be it's official state language, and to require all voters to have valid ID....the "One vote will win 1million dollars" initiative looks like it's failing though.

Dan Kimball looks to be beating Howard Thronson quite well. 920 and 933 are both failing. 937 is slightly ahead. Cantwell, Baird and Smith all appear to be winning....huge shocker I know.

So this is my up to date quarter after 10pm relayed new for y'all.

Judging by the shift in the house and the slight shift in the senate...Norm is going to be investing in firearms over the next 2 years.

Merry Election Day One and All!!!!

Voting Error

Skagit County. Ballots were printed without the legally required text describing initiatives. This was discovered only when a voter in Precinct 125 noticed it and reported it to the county and the Secretary of State. link.

Margaret Diane Hill: For the second time I have gone to Highland Terrace Elementary School to vote and been greeted with a broken Accu Vote Machine. The poll workers don't tell you it's busted until after you sign for your ballot. Then, after you vote you get to put it into a BROKEN machine that could have a waste basket in the bottom for all you know. HELP!!! What to do? I called the King County Voting precinct. Doesn't work. Last time they said they got 3 (THREE) broken Accu Vote MAchines in a row on the same day. Seems like a really convenient way to replace ballots with ones they like. Link.

Snoqualmie Elementary School in Snoqualmie and Mt. Si Senior Center in North Bend were closed and advised voters to go to other polling places. Link.

Atleast you're not in Texas: Former Rep. Tom DeLay, the disgraced Texas Republican, left behind a rare open congressional seat. But in that Texas district, according to the Houston Chronicle, "poll workers discovered that the wrong electronic machines had been delivered in at least four precincts, delaying dozens of voters and causing an undetermined number to vote in the wrong state Senate race."

Recent events – revelations of warrantless wiretapping of U.S. citizens, legislation that provides for diminished judicial and legislative oversight, and increasing use of Presidential Signing Statements – have caused citizens of all political stripes to question whether we are witnessing the emergence of an Executive Branch more powerful than was envisioned by the framers of our Constitution.

Join our panelists as they briefly describe the concept and mechanics of Checks and Balances in our Constitution. Following their brief opening comments about the status of that design in today's political climate, join the dialog about where we are and where events are leading us.

Our panel includes:

Hugh J. McGavick, an attorney whose practice includes civil rights and First Amendment issues.

Kevin Wimsett, a Civics and History educator at Black Hills High School and former Pierce County Council member.

Gery Gerst, a US history and Political Science educator at Olympia High School and The Evergreen State College.

Veterans Day is approaching and I find myself awash in stories and memories and thoughts of veterans past, present, and future. I would like every day to be Veterans Day until we stop the wars.

I want us to watch the coffins return home. I want to hear public interviews with medics and coroners and those who work at morgues. I want an encampment of surviving family members on the White House lawn.

Here is another story, this one from Sgt. Ricky Clousing. He tells us of witnessing the death of an Iraqi teen "who had simply made a wrong turn".

So many stories. So many lives lost. And we don't even take good care of those who make it home.

At the State Capital Museum, Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at NOON

Join historian Drew Crooks as he presents a slide-illustrated lecture featuring Chief Quiemuth, half-brother of Leschi and a strong Native American leader, who lived from 1800 to 1856. Quiemuth was appointed chief of the Nisqually Tribe by Governor Isaac Stevens, played an important role at the Medicine Creek Council and in the Puget Sound Indian War, and was later killed in the Olympia office of Governor Stevens. No one was ever brought to justice for the crime.

FREE with paid admission to the museum.
