Associated Press: "Ex-Rep. Barr Quits GOP for Libertarians":

Bob Barr, who served eight years as a Republican congressman before losing his seat in 2002, announced Friday that he is now a "proud, card-carrying Libertarian." And he encouraged others to join him.

"It's something that's been bothering me for quite some time, the direction in which the party has been going more and more toward big government and disregard toward privacy and civil liberties," said Barr, 58, a lawyer and consultant living in Atlanta. "In terms of where the country needs to be going to get back to our constitutional roots ... I've come to the conclusion that the only way to do that is to work with a party that practices what it preaches, and that is the Libertarian Party."

Maybe if the Libertarian Party of Washington State had more recent news than April 3 of this year, they too could start building momentum.

Given the current state of emergency, it seems unfair to ask people to shop somewhere other than the store most convenient to their house.  So, the Saturday picket has been postponed.  Stay safe out there, and remember, Safeway is open, too!

Wow.

I had chills while I walked through Decatur Woods Park and it wasn't from the temp. The park is entirely transformed, I've never seen it like this.

In some places it appears that the forest is working to reclaim the cement path, I could not always distinguish between path and earth because of all the downed branches and debris. Some of those branches are mighty big and I saw several huge pieces of broken off tree further in the woods. Much of the path also has a sheen of standing water across it.

The seasonal ponds are high. Several other folks were out enjoying the park, a dog bounded in and out of one of those surely cold ponds to retrieve a ball. A young woman and her daughter worked to fly a rainbow kite up in the remaining gusts of wind. Two other dogs were also romping around, all the dogs looked quite happy.

How are you all faring out there? Any damage from the high winds?

I didn't lose power here but we did go through some brown outs, enough so I finally turned off the computer and lit candles.

I took a wonderful walk with a friend last night in the wind while staying clear of those tall swaying trees. Evergreen branches were strewn all over the streets.

Timberland Library web page seems to be down still this morning. The Evergreen State College, St. Martin's, and other schools are all closed last time I checked.

We the MediaPublisher Comments:

Grassroots journalists are dismantling Big Media's monopoly on the news, transforming it from a lecture to a conversation. Not content to accept the news as reported, these readers-turned-reporters are publishing in real time to a worldwide audience via the Internet. The impact of their work is just beginning to be felt by professional journalists and the newsmakers they cover. In We the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People, nationally known business and technology columnist Dan Gillmor tells the story of this emerging phenomenon, and sheds light on this deep shift in how we make and consume the news.
