I remember back in 2000 when the DNR started cracking down on liveaboards across Puget Sound. Apparently they got together and started fighting back. They have an association:

Dating back almost 100 years, liveaboard boaters have been a part of the color and richness of Puget Sound. The liveaboard lifestyle is an age-old pursuit, it is a choice to passionately pursue a love of water, adventure, and freedom. The liveaboard community of Puget Sound, together with concerned citizens across the state, have formed this assocation to protect a NW heritage, and a cherished way of life.

Longtime community activist and EGYHOP founder Long Hair David has finally secured a private attorney in his two-year ordeal with felony assault charges. The charges stem from an incident which happened Feb 16, 2004 as David was in Sylvester Park downtown in Olympia. Three WSP Officers approached David, accused him of dropping a cigarette on the ground, and the misunderstanding which resulted ended in David's arrest for felony assault of an officer. The bench trial, which had been scheduled for today (Feb 13, 2006) has been moved to April 10th. EGYHOP is the Emma Goldman Youth and Homeless Outreach Project - a direct services organization for the street populations of Olympia. David is one of my heroes; it has broken my heart to see him reduced in spirit and body as the stress of worrying about this case has worn him down. The men who attacked him that day have never taken responsibility for their misunderstanding or contributory negligence in the case, and likely never will, even when David is aquitted. The case number is 04-1-00343-5 and you can track the docket for it here and paste the case number in the box, and choose Thurston County.

These nazi's are just plain creeping me out. I want to know what prompted them, out of the blue, to show up and start disturbing, disrupting and instilling fear into this community.

I am concerned about the local reaction to the Nazi presence.

I have two separate visions in my imagination: 1) 8 or 9 nazi's standing in solitude, isolated on a hill top, blathering obscenities and slogans like "white-power," while one of their number ridiculously holds a shield
-OR-
2) 8 or 9 nazi's defending themselves against a group of 150 counter protestors, arguably being threatened - even to the point of necessitating police escort.

Now I ask, which image would most likely tend promote recruitment more?

I'll add that my opinion is rather fixed. I see this group as having an intention to disrupt. These individuals strike me as little more than trolls, who thrive on adversity and the reactionary response that they get from communities they set upon to antagonize.

How to handle a troll?

Don't.

Simply ignore them.

Just happened to flip over to Hardball this afternoon and see Chris Matthews interviewing three veterans of the conflict in Iraq running for various seats.

Two were running under the Republican banner and the third was running as a Democrat. Only caught the tail-end so I don't know what was said, just thought it was interesting.

Matthew Ernest Ramsey is his name, he goes by "Jim Ramm" for all his white supremacist doings. Since he is leading this Neo-Nazi crew that plans to protest the marble steps of our state capitol dome this summer, I thought it would be neighborly to find out just who he is.

The Spokesman Review  gives us a good start on our journey. Next we turn to an article on the National Socialist Movement. If you then choose to google on your own, do so only with caution, Jimbo's actual hate site is beyond horrendous.

Photos of Jim and friends can be found at Groundview Productions. Jim is the brownshirt with NSM patch and lapels, in shades, usually with video camera.

Olympia, meet Jim Ramm.

Yes, the rumors are true, the college was designed to be riot proof. The first new building constructed on the campus was the steam plant, which included "riot-proof" windows (Daily Olympian, 9/9/70, p. 3). The steam plant is also the building where vehicles have access to the maze of tunnels under campus. We used to take off our shoes and sneak past the guy in the little glass office and roam around in those vast steam tunnels. When we were down there, every now and then we'd come to a ladder which went up to those brick boxes you see here and there on campus. Then we could observe people walking around on Red Square through the grates. The original Red Square, a wide area surrounded by berms and narrow exits, had an incredibly slippery surface in the 1970s. We always felt it was that way on purpose for crowd control. The bricks were replaced in the 1980s. During the time the campus was designed, student unrest around the country was widespread. An article in the Daily Olympian for Oct. 18, 1968 (p. 6) entitled, "Evergreen Officials Probe Reasons for Student Unrest - 'It Won't Happen Here," discusses the fear of "anarchists" causing trouble and some hint about the plans to contain that threat.

From Ascribe:

OLYMPIA, Wash., Feb. 13 (AScribe Newswire) -- The Evergreen State College and the hard work of students have been recognized with two distinct honors in the past week for the college's commitment to renewable energy.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released the list of the nation's top-ten college and university green power purchasers today - and The Evergreen State College is eighth in the nation with the amount of green power purchased. All of the electricity used at the main campus in Olympia, as well as the Tacoma campus, is green, translating to enough energy for more than 1,500 homes per year, according to the EPA.

There's more...
