One of Olympia's best kept secrets is the recent formation of a female roller derby team, The Oly Rollers. They have been honing their skills at Skateland- www.skatelandolympia.com - and are in the process of incorporating themselves so they can have actual roller derby meets/competitions. This is one of the more DIY organizations I have seen in a long time, that is not falling short of expectationn. The women of the league have been deidcating countless hours and their time to realize the league. Won't you come out and support them? they are having a benefit raiser at The Manium Warehouse in downton Olympia this Sunday, 7 May 2006. The festivities start at 7PM and continuing until midnight.

At Manium 421 4th st E, Downtown Olympia

$7 at door.

5 bands: Spasm, Sex a-peel, Vomiting Unicorns, Hook and the Daggers, and Adventure, foxy boxing, raffle and pictures with rollergirls

One of our NSM fans has written in response to the petition to take nukeisrael.com down. Maybe the NSM really is a performance troupe and this promised blanketing of our community with paper means something postmodern and existential. Or maybe they cannot control their urge to litter.

Get those garbage cans ready.

Because you have been targeting our site We will plaster Olympia soon with tens of thousands of flyers. You will then be able to brag to the media that your actions incited the racialists into action.
Love YA! Not!

Cross posted at Olympia Time

The Olympian this morning pointed out the difference between Olympia's youth outreach efforts and the Tumwater youth program. Olympia recently cut their $30,000 or so program because it didn't attract much of a following and Tumwater's $120,000 program is roaring along.

In addition to the obvious difference in budget, one reason why Tumwater's is working while Olympia's failed is summed up here and with a couple of maps:

Colton Rose, 16, a student at Black Hills High School, walks to the center in the afternoon to get away from his brothers, he said. “It’s a pretty fun place to hang out,

Space.com:

"Red Spot Jr." as it is being called, formed after three white oval-shaped storms—two of which were at least 90 years old—merged between 1998 and 2000.

A similar merger took place centuries ago and formed the bigger and legendary Great Red Spot, a storm twice as big as Earth and almost 300 years old.

Little is known about how storms form on the giant planet. They are often described as behaving similar to hurricanes on Earth.

The global change cycle began when the last of the white oval-shaped storms formed south of the Great Red Spot in 1939. As the storms started to merge between 1998 and 2000, the mixing of heat began to slow down at that latitude and has continued slowing ever since.

The movement of heat from the equator to Jupiter's south pole is expected to stop at 34 degrees southern latitude, where Red Spot Jr. is forming.

I'd like a "yo" if anyone from the Olympian reads OlyBlog.

Maybe a "how frequently," too?

From The Olympian:

George Bray of Olympia, who fuels his 2003 Volkswagen Jetta with biodiesel at Acme’s self-serve station, is encouraged by the cost competitiveness the alternative fuel is showing at the pump. As recently as December, petroleum diesel was more than 50 cents a gallon cheaper than biodiesel at the Acme station.

“I think it’s great — it will bring more customers into the fold,” Bray said. “My only concern is: Can biodiesel supply keep up with the demand?”

Acme purchases its biodiesel from a Midwest supplier that can meet the company’s growing demand, Allen said.

And a package of legislation approved by the 2006 state Legislature is designed to kick-start biofuel production in Washington with state grants and a requirement that all diesel fuel contain at least 2 percent biodiesel beginning in 2008 and ramping up to 5 percent as biodiesel production statewide increases.
