I've been up watching documentaries. "Paragraph 175" was my choice tonight. We should schedule a viewing of it.

I also want to wish Crusty and Crenshaw a happy fun ultra mega extreme wedding. Good good night night.

By Mariam Karouny BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq will ask the United Nations to end immunity from local law for U.S. troops, the government said on Monday, as the U.S. military named five soldiers charged in a rape-murder case that has outraged Iraqis. In an interview a week after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki demanded a review of foreign troops' immunity, Human Rights Minister Wigdan Michael said work on it was now under way and a request could be ready by next month to go to the U.N. Security Council, under whose mandate U.S.-led forces operate in Iraq. "We're very serious about this," she said, adding a lack of enforcement of U.S. military law in the past had encouraged soldiers to commit crimes against Iraqi civilians. "We formed a committee last week to prepare reports and put it before the cabinet in three weeks. After that, Maliki will present it to the Security Council. We will ask them to lift the immunity," Michael said. "If we don't get that, then we'll ask for an effective role in the investigations that are going on. The Iraqi government must have a role." Analysts say it is improbable the United States would ever make its troops answerable to Iraq's chaotic judicial system. Asked to respond to Michael's remarks, White House spokesman Tony Snow dismissed that as a "hypothetical game".

I'm perfecting my skill of being quasi-social...sitting in a dark bar, surrounded by Olybloggers, but hiding out behind my screen. Mostly, I'm trying to figure out the best way to post the Plan B protest schedule.
» That's the other thing I did this evening...our planning meeting went quite well, I think. We have three big protests/pickets planned in July, plus we're going to have a couple of people there every evening. Plus letters to the editor, maybe a press release (!), and so on and so forth. I was just telling Rick that I got way more involved in this than I really intended to...but it's been a good thing. On one count, because so much in the world pisses me off so much and makes me so sad right now, and this is something I think I can do something about. On another, because I've been dealing with some inner turmoil sh!t (oh the brain chemicals), and this project has given me something to focus on outside myself, and provided some really amazing positive social interaction. I moved to Olympia four years ago next month, and in all that time I've never had much of a social scene. (Imagine that, an introvert having a hard time meeting people!) My old scene in Tacoma dissolved by natural processes some time ago. And in the last month, I've met and enjoyed meeting more people -- here, in my town, not in Austin (SXSW) or in Seattle, or whatever -- than in those four years gone by. Not until very recently could I appreciate it entirely; now I'm beyond pleased and grateful. Also, I'm giggling at the whole caiman gesture picture thing.

We're sitting here at the Broho hopefully waiting for Olycop to walk through the door. To break up the extreme boredom while we wait, we're debating what would be the appropriate theme music to play as he walked through the door. Here's the list so far:

I love this Firefox extension - Gmail File Space:
» This extension allows you to use your Gmail Space (2 GB) for file storage. It acts as a remote machine. You can transfer files between your hard drive and gmail. This is similar to "Gmail Drive" on windows platform. Your gmail account looks like a FTP host and you can upload and download your files. After you install, you get an option called "GSpace" in your "tools" menu clicking on which opens the window for transfer of folders/files.

Whatever type of digital camera Drew needs, I don't know enough about all the possibilities, so.......whatever he needs to do the work he already does.....lets make that happen.
» Media station at Media Island so folks can work on and upload all this stuff I don't really understand yet and get on OlyBlog and elsewhere. I personally want to learn more about podcasting and I also want to know how to put audio clips on my blog here. I want to learn how to use the Audacity program I have, or at least play around with it enough to know if it is not what I want to be doing at this time. I need new printer ink, memory, pair of cheap headphones, headset for landline and cell phones, a good basic digital camera, and a portable tape recorder. And/or maybe a video recorder. USB drives oh and a laptop with wifi. Along with all the needed cords, cables, microphones, batteries, film, gear bags, and cyborg fashion. I definitely need a headlamp also. (Headlamp needed for when I finally discover The FLOD Cave of Elder Caimans.) |
