I got lost in the prior thread so I'll start a new one on the theme of privacy, outing, respect, and community information. Please feel free to join in.

For community safety, I do believe in publishing information on dangerous people. Sex offenders and others. Unless it somehow was directly tied into the danger level, I wouldn't be posting information on a criminal's family or friends. I myself see hate groups as potential or actual criminal gangs. Photos and names, public info, can be helpful for community safety. But I would never publish home addresses or family info without a lot of thought and reasoning.

Even if personal information and nonsense is published about me. Because after awhile, I would be caught up on their level, in their dance. This would not be a place where I personally can be effective. I know other groups and individuals make other choices and I respect that we can have different opinions.

I'm learning and refining my ideas and actions as I go along, as I learn from more experienced folks also.

If a public figure is being a hypocrite and harming our community by pretending to be what they are not, I would consider outing them. Only after a lot of research and thought.

Ultimately I want to be part of community efforts to help us all be safe. Just because I believe that I can do something, just because I can reason something out and defend my actions, does not automatically mean that I -should- do that action.

There is a way that we can help keep each other informed and realistic, while being honorable and respecting each other.

We've had this idea introduced here on OlyBlog, one that the author of "On Killing" writes about. I found an excerpt of the book about this theme. (I don't know anything about the web site this is on.)

I don't have much to write yet, going to cook on it, I do appreciate the words about confronting denial.

Once again I'm off for my 7 or 8 mile walk with friends. If you run across a guy with lily white legs, wearing a wife-beater, sunglasses and a mariners cap...feel free to say "hi".

OperaGirl and I have discovered a caiman incubation site. The site is cunningly placed right in public view!

Walk to the observation tower past Percival Landing, face the port, walk towards the port fence, and stop before the platform of plants and the two sacred orbs.

You may think those two orbs are really just two carved stones placed accidentally in the caiman incubation formation. Bevare!

OperaGirl and I noted that one orb looks ready to hatch, a circular pattern is seen upon it. The other orb looked like it has a way to go.

OperaGirl notes that the large port lights are really incubation lights over the nursery. Behind the plantings we also found two (2) baptismal fonts, we did not have a geiger counter handy so have not yet determined if the caiman babies are washed only for ceremony or for radioactivity.

We walked, stunned by our discovery, to the farmer's market, where I had the misfortune to look up and discover chicken wire overhead. Yes, I found the site for adolescent caiman cage fights.

Bevare!

Thanks to everyone that showed up in support of our protesters!

The update at this point is that  every case got 'reset' until the prosecution produces copies of the police videos that were taken at theport. See the new dates below.

A group of people who are representing themselves are looking to develop 'Motions' to file in the hopes of getting their cases dismissed, etc. If you
have any interest in helping with this work [legal research, writing, copying, etc] let me know.  Pat 705-2726

Also, very important, the judges are imposing a $100 'assessment fee' on those appointed with a Public Defender and that amount is in addition to the already $100 'booking fee' imposed at the time of arrest. If you haven't already done so, then please contribute to the Legal Defense Fund to pay off these amounts ASAP as the deadline for the payment is fast approaching: August 1st! Directions on contributing are at the end of this email.Or if you want to adopt a specific protester and pay off their fees, let me know and I'll set you up with their case number for payments.

The calendar below will be verified through the courts and an updated email will be sent out as the dates approach.

Just picked up on this very disturbing trend.  Apparently various hate groups are joining the Army in order to receive training.

Below are links to the articles, very disturbing:

I'd do more on this story but my brain is fried so maybe someone can follow up.  Original report from boingboing.net

I don't know if anyone else has posted on this. For the last few weeks there's been this old guy -- I'm talking 70s - 80s -- standing on Legion out in front of Planned Parenthood with a sign. One side of his sign says something to the effect of "Pill failure accounts for 50% of abortions." The other side says something to the effect of "80% of abortions are out of wedlock."

While I respect his right to be there, I'm unclear on the validity of his statistics. I haven't talked to him, so I don't know what his motivations are beyond the obvious that he is Anti-Choice. I don't think I've ever seen him at Ralph's so perhaps he is aware that Plan B is not an abortion. If that is in fact the case, then maybe he's done his homework and his statistics are relatively accurate.

I don't know how to program websites and haven't the funds to buy one.  Does anybody with strong antifascist sentiment and some html wish to lend a hand?  360-888-2335.

Daytime, bright sun outside. I heard a knock on the door and checked through blinds first before opening the door. Young woman beaming at me, magazine subscription materials in one hand, her other thrust out towards me.

Now, to be "nice", I should have accepted her hand, shook her hand, and listened to whatever she was saying.

But I'd recently read this great book The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker (Timberland library has copies). He talks through how we can be alert, educated, and safe, without being in a constant state of anxiety. He also educated me about a technique called "forced teaming", which is what the young magazine sales woman was trying on me at this very moment.

I shook my head and smiled in a friendly but firm fashion, did not shake her hand, wished her well, and closed the door. As I was stepping out of the situation her entire demeanor changed, she took on a threatening style posture, lost her smile, and complained loudly about how unfriendly I was.

I closed the door gently, locked, she then left.

This is just a minor example but I now look back through my life and can see many other examples, including ones much more serious. Forced teaming is used to make the target feel that they are now on the same side as the one using this, on the same team, and must then be wanting the same objectives.

A related issue that I'm reading up on is social engineering. A good book on this is The Art of Deception by Kevin D. Mitnick. So many of these cons have been used for years (centuries?) and they keep being used because they work so well.

The two I work to be aware of is shoulder surfing, when I'm at an ATM, dialing a phone, entering a password....is there anyone paying particular interest in my actions? Anyone behind me just standing there watching?
