Ignorant Movie Review the first:  The Proposition

Response to title:
Is this sexual? an ethical look at Enron?  Despite denotation to the contrary, the word connotes seediness to me.

Response to streetside poster:  What the fuck, an Outback Western?  Nick Cave wrote this?  I'm biased already.  I can't wait to hear the soundtrack.

Response post-credits:  Violent.  I like the soundtrack.  Visually, the film is highly representational of the subject matter, nothing is clean.  Grittiness seems embedded within the frames themselves.  The acting is phenomenal.  I particularly feel this way in retrospect as I realize that there really was a paucity of lines.  On multiple occassions the dialogue exists as the silence within a camera shot and its context.  Hard editing cuts are like a decapitation.

Film Haiku:  Bloody brotherhood
                and nine days to justify
                    a desert sunset.

Rating:  4 out of 5 Oly Stubbies.

Can be seen:  Olympia Film Society

For crying out loud guys, please, please just SMELL the milk before you take a great big drink. It's much less disgusting this way, take my word for it.

Nauseasly Yours,

Seems like it's been ages since I've been around here -- Kiki and I have both been more than a little holed up the past week or so. With fall pretty much here, and winter fast approaching, the temptation to be a total hermit during the dark months gets worse and worse. So as not to disappear completely, I'm going to make plans right here, right now, for what I'm going to do this fall.

There's a lot of stuff to do in the area that's nearby and cheap (if not free). Some of my ideas to keep active:

There are tons of parks and outdoor areas around. Nisqually, Priest Point, Millersylvania, Frye Cove, and tons more. The hiking is all good, and it's always nice to see the critters. Wolf Haven, Northwest Trek, and other close-ish wildlife parks fit in there too, but they're a bit pricier.

Last fall Kiki and I discovered the joy of mushroom hunting. With some practice and education, one can find gourmet food growing in your backyard! Chanterelles can go for around $13-14 a pound, so finding them yourself is always nice. Mushroom season has just begun, and I'm really excited for it.

Pumpkin carving next month! I'm going to have to go to a pumpkin patch and get something to carve. There are tons of other squash out there, too, and I kind of want to eat them all.

Fall and winter beers are coming out, too. I've seen the new Fishtales (Old Woody is one of my favorites), and Deschutes' Jubelale should be around soon, too! We're definitely going to have to go to the Fishbowl. Just remember: moderation, kids.

Feel free to add your own ideas (is there a central concert/arts calendar for Olympia anywhere?). Staving off SAD is my #1 priority this year.

Can anyone tell me who Bush thinks he is in opposing stem cells research?I only have some USC time,no MBA,so maybe I'm missing something in his thinking, but I have something for him to think about in return.

A local MD used interferon to cure my liver and give me pulmonary fibrosis, slow suffocation. Prednisone from another Dr. to breathe ok in 4  months took me from 190 to 260 lbs. Long story short, this month I see the UWMC about growing me new lungs and a new heart in a lab using my organs' tissue and my stem cells and I'm good to 160 y.o.

Tissue and stem cells in hospital labs can grow any organ in the body but the brain. That stops the effects of diabetes, Hep C or cirrohisis, the gamut of organ cancers,spinal-cord trauma paralysis, you name it. So I have a question for Bush: Is he self-annointed as a Grand Inquisitor to stop medical science doing what it assuredly can for the benefit of humanity? Presuming the authority to decide who lives to get older or has to die to keep his ideas intact really smells like what we have a treament plant for north of the downtown Olympia area. It's another reason to boot him to the curb.

Thurston mail now sent to Tacoma - The Olympian

Starting Monday night, Thurston County first-class mail, or stamped letters and postcards with a zip code beginning with 985, goes to Tacoma for processing before returning to South Sound for delivery.

Olympia and Tacoma also will share a joint postmark, but that change is not expected until early next week, according to Postal Service spokesman Ernie Swanson.

The Postal Service is waiting on some equipment from Virginia that will imprint an Olympia/Tacoma postmark on first-class mail, he said.

As for any delays in mail service created by the consolidation plan, Swanson was upbeat about the transition while local union officials were more cautious.

Clint Burelson, president of the American Postal Workers Union's Olympia local, claims the Tacoma plant is understaffed and could have difficulties getting the mail out on time.

Once mail in the 985 zip code area has been collected, it must leave the Tumwater mail plant for Tacoma no later than 7:40 p.m., and then must return to Tumwater by 2:10 a.m., according to Swanson.
