The old brewery building on the north side of is being dismantled, and what looks like dozens of old beer vats are being removed from the back. Looks pretty cool.

Click for www.electoral-vote.com

This is a great website that is run by a computer scientist living abroad (The Netherlands, I think). He aggregates all the most recent poll data and projects the outcome of the election. It was fascinating to track this site in '04 (I was fairly glued to it), and he's tracking the Senate this time around. It is a good site to know about, especially for '08.

Ok, this is more of a rant or a vent, it's not news, but I'm not into livejournal or myspace so I'm gonna vent here.

Have you ever had one of those dreams, or goals, that seems like it should be attainable but you keep stumbling on?
I have always prided myself on being an upbeat person. I think I'm pretty friendly, and stay positive about life 99% of the time. Every once in awhile I can get grumpy but I pull out of it very quickly. Sometimes....sometimes I have those days though, where something happens and I really get in a bit of a funk. Today would be one of those days.
I'm normally one of those, "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back in the saddle people." but there's always that little voice in the back of my head that says, "You are fighting a losing battle, quit now and put your energy into something worthwhile.". I'm not quitting at this point, I suppose I'm too stubborn for that, but I have to wonder: How much can a human take before that little voice in the back of your head finally convinces you to move on?

Article on Suzanne Swift's case

Many female veterans say her case might be an example of a raw fact of military life: that sexual offenses often go unreported, that young, lower-ranking women are especially vulnerable and that those harmed fear hostile treatment if they speak up.

“It’s more common than, unfortunately, people realize,” said Colleen Mussolino, a founder of Women Veterans of America.

I'm certainly a neophyte when it comes to local politics, so I don't know what grudges are present, etc; however, this seems like a good excuse for some people who'd like to see downtown a little cleaner to get out and do something about it.

From today's Olympian:

Help give Olympia a cleaner downtown

Our Views

What are you doing Sept. 30? How about investing a little sweat equity to better your community?

Twice a year, before the popular Arts Walk celebrations, crews of South Sound residents grab rakes, shovels and litter sacks for "Operation Downtown Clean Up."

Work crews spend part of the day painting and picking up trash, removing unsightly graffiti, trimming trees and raking leaves. Volunteers will be rewarded with a barbecue lunch donated by Marv's Marvulus Pit BBQ and coffee courtesy of Olympia Coffee Roasting.

We encourage individuals and community organizations to join in the cleanup effort. Trash the trash and sweep the sidewalks.

Funding for the cleanup campaign is provided by the Parking Business Improvement Area (PBIA) through a tax on downtown businesses.

Volunteers gather at 8:30 a.m. at the deployment center, a vacant building at 510 Columbia St.

Friday is the deadline for volunteers to register with the Olympia Downtown Association. Call Donelle Deuel, events coordinator, at 360-357-8948.

"No special skills are needed," Deuel said, "just a willingness to donate a couple of hours sprucing up downtown Olympia."

Make the call today.
