Tonight I went to Fertile Ground for the Living Local workshop about developing a "local community renaissance." It was fantastic and I recommend anyone interested and available attend next Wednesday.

There are two things in particular which I would like to share with the OlyBlogging contingent of the Olympia community. 1) Susie Kyle, a local farmer & activist, provided a brief overview of the Western Washington Farm Bank Project. They're working toward the creation of a community managed distribution center with a restaurant serving our locally produced food. How cool is that, and how good would this be for the community? 2) I got a chance to speak with Gail Sulivan during the Potluck about the Sound Hours . Gail informed me about the phoenix that is the Sound Hours. It's being worked on, and I encourage every OlyBlogger concerned with the development of local community to get involved with its development and implementation.

Most of these seem to have happen recently, although a few are dated back a few days.

5 people picked up for warrant violations. 1 of those was a warrant from TCSO and I hope was referred over to them.

1 followup for a recovered stolen vehicle

Of course the 3 stolen vehicles on the report offset that a bit.

2 other thefts of property

2 theft/burglary's, one at the 3500 block on Martin Way, the other on the 600 block of Central St.  (For those who don't know. Central runs from about Wheeler St. to Bigelow, parallel to eastside and Boulevard)

1 hit and run accident at the 900 block of Jefferson St. around 0900 01/22. No leads. Anyone see anything?

5 regular traffic accidents (slow down folks!)

1 follow up on a vandalism report

1 report of grafitti

2 assaults, 1 with a mal mischief tag and one with a harrasment tag.

2 Follow ups on malicious mischief

2 arrests for straight malicious mischief both involving glass

1 lost debit card

1 robbery at harrison and division. Pending investigation

2 arrests for Driving under the influence 1 of those was a driving while license suspended as well.

1 driving while license suspended (other than the above stated)

1 fraud investigation with exhausted leads.

1 citation (or arrest?) for nvol "no valid operators license"

1 missing report form  ???

1 vehicle impounded

1 civil problem that was referred to Tacoma

1 reckless endangerment/discharge of firearm on Milroy St. This was also published in the Olympian online

and 1 escape from 900 block of plumb street. What do you suppose happend there?

Blogging for Retailers White Paper Provides Practical Advice for Online Merchants

My good bud, former Olympian, and fellow renaissance-man/entrepreneur and marketer extraordinaire Dave Olson gets the business press of the week, by feeding coal into the engine of the Cluetrain with an article in PR Web on his Practical Advice for Marketing Conversations White paper. (directly linked bypassing the form that gets you on the "marketing cold-call list.")

Dave and I have had an unofficial contest running for years which measures which one of us can get the most press items published (either by us, about us, or including us), and he's leaping out into a clear lead by a few good strides starting last year, with his exploits and successes of late.

Dave has recently had published two magazine articles and a guest blogging column in Heads Magazine. Some of Dave's other new publishing ventures include a new colaborative Canucks Podcast, (to compliment his Canucks Outsider Podcast), a personal blog, a poetry blog, and of course, his world famous Choogle On with Uncleweed Podcast, which is breaking subscriber records each month!!! And, as I'm sure, more fame awaits Dave in the Great White North.

I realize this is neither local nor military-themed (my "resolutions," if you will), but it's interesting nonetheless.

If the events depicted in The Abyss or Independence Day ever took place, I can't say either would be terribly shocking to me.

Personally, I hope it's more like Halo: Combat Evolved, but that's another story.

At any rate, there's crazy stuff in the ocean and in space.

Reuters: "Rare shark captured on film":

A species of shark rarely seen alive because its natural habitat is about 2,000 feet under the sea was captured on film by staff at a Japanese marine park this week.

"They live between 1,968 and 3,280 feet (600 and 1,000 meters) under the water, which is deeper than humans can go."
