For a long time I was convinced of the classic aesthetic as shades in the sheen of black or white. Venus de Milo is undressed, plainly. Zeus sat in dominance among mere mortals, bared, bare.

Anybody go see Mike Farrell tonight? I just go home from the event and came away very impressed. I thought he is a very articulate speaker, who did not force his beliefs on us, rather asked us to open up to others. Anyway, I was impressed.

We had a very successful first class this morning, with two very cute and engaging toddlers (one 16 months, the other almost 24 months). We practiced some talking, signing, playing, and drawing. If we get enough of a crowd next time, we may even have a circle time with songs! If you're interested, please go to The Freeschool for more information. You can also visit Talking with Toddlers to learn more about how to facilitate communication in young children.

Oct 19 2007 - 7:00pm [via tesccrier] The Evergreen State College Presents: Poetry Slam featuring Christa Bell, Gabriel Teodros and Evergreen Students! Christa Bell is an award-winning feminist folk poet, performance artist, and cultural activist from Seattle, Washington. A National Poetry Slam (NPS) Champion, National Public Radio alumna and internationally touring artist Bell’s work is crafted by combining the oral poetic and storytelling traditions of the Classical Black American Church with rhythmic elements of Hip-Hop and the body-centered awareness and transformative mission of women’s sacred ritual. Her work is an act of resistance towards the international corporately-sanctioned attack on women in mainstream hip-hop and mass media. As a spoken-word artist, poet and monologist Bell has created a body of work that is both a cultural insurgency and spiritual-political revival in celebration of the gospel according to women. www.christabellonline.com Gabriel Teodros is the everyday journeyman with more stories to tell than most people twice his age. Having seen both city and countryside through the eyes of a broke-ass rapper and immigrant child, Teodros spins observations and wordplay into internationalism on wax. Linking first and third world people's struggles, he is sincere when he says "we in this together son, your beef is mine." http://www.myspace.com/gabrielteodros
