Updated, 5:57 a.m., good catch Dylan.

I'm going to spend the next few months looking through the sweat (oh, so sweat) precinct level data that the auditor put up on the election. First little look was to see how many precincts Meta won, which is three.

Olympia 18, Olympia 20 and Olympia 44 where the three that Meta took. There were several others that were close, but the vast majority (as you can imagine) were very not close.

Two precincts follow 4th and State up the east side hill, one is on the westside:

I kind of used to live near all of these precincts at one time or another, but I don't really know that much about these neighborhoods to really know why they were Meta's only three. Any ideas?

12 mini-reviews for the short attention span, taken from dark corners of stevenl's video vault:

Sabrina / directed by Billy Wilder (1954, VHS). Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, Francis X. Bushman, Harvey B. Dunn (uncredited), Nancy Kulp (uncredited). Call this one the Ugly Duckling story, or Cinderella, or the Tortoise and Hare. Sabrina (Hepburn) is the daughter of the Larabee family chauffeur. David Larabee (Holden) is the rapidly-approaching-middle-age playboy younger Larabee brother, Linus (Bogart) is the too-old-for-this-role workaholic older brother. Sabrina is in love with the oblivious David, she travels to France and the duck returns as a swan. Only then does David falls in love with her, and Linus is sent in to fix the situation. There is a lot in this film about social and economic class, the dual yet unequal worlds of servants and the served. As Sabrina's chauffeur father points out, "Democracy can be a wickedly unfair thing, Sabrina. Nobody poor was ever called democratic for marrying somebody rich." Watching the effervescent Hepburn slowly wake up the soul of the stick-in-the-mud Bogart is really at the core of the story. Apparently, in reality, Bogart and Holden hated each other, and when asked how he liked working with Hepburn, Bogart said, "It's ok, if you don't mind to make 20 takes." There is a great cooking school scene on how to crack an egg. Bogart's bowtie is not too distracting, since it sort of fits his character.

A place to talk about not allegedly having one's rights violated, to discuss what it is like to NOT be "brutalized" by the OPD, and how to hold the City of Olympia accountable for NOT supporting "illegal" actions.

Coming soon! NOT dragging truck drivers from their trucks and placing them under citizen's arrest for aiding an "illegal war"

Stay tuned for "I was acting as a law abiding citizen and nothing happened!"

Don't change the channel! Tonight at 11, "Windows, and the people who break them."

Special report on dragging dumpsters into the streets. Tips, techniques and ideas!

Pepper! It's not just for spray! Easy recipes and uses for pepper in your favorite foods!

Batons. A cop's favorite weapon, or tool of hot cheerleaders and majorettes?

Of course, this should NOT be treated as a serious discussion.  Any attempts to be serious will be laughed at and reported to the OPD.

So as not to hijack a thread, I am responding in depth to Norm's statement that I need to "Live a little" when it comes to European guns.:-)

Personally I like nearly every Russian gun I have put my hands on.  Even the puny little Nagant revolver is fascinating, and fills a useful niche.  I have an SKS of Russian pattern, a Mosin Nagant M38 carbine, and am saving my pennies for an AK-47.

I have owned or currently own US, British, German, Russian and Italian guns.  Time and time again I come back to the Russian ones.  Usually ugly, somewhat crude and dated, they just plain WORK.

What more can you ask for from a gun?

Hey, got a question for you all:

Not just as a downtown business owner but also personally for me and my family did I really enjoy this years Fall ArtsWalk we were able to participate. It was great to see the community to come out and play and support the local artists and the businesses in downtown.

Now, I've been speaking with a few other business/gallery owners and we would love to open our stores once a month (Every First Friday of the Month) until late and invite artists to show their work and the community to come out and "Experience Downtown at Night".

So, my questions for all of you:

+ Has there been something like this before, why did it stop?

+ Would you come downtown for an event like this, if not, why?

+ What do you think is a good way of advertising such an event (don't want to call it ArtsWalk?)

Thanks for participating!

How will we respond to police brutality at the Port of Olympia protests?
We Will Not Be Silent!

Response and Support Meeting
Wednesday, Nov. 28th
8pm
Olympia Free School
610 Columbia - Downtown Oly

You are welcome to attend this meeting if:

  • You were assaulted by the Olympia police between Nov. 5th and 15th.
  • You witnessed excessive use of force by the police during this period.
  • You want to help organize a response to the police and city's actions.
  • You need support.

During the Port of Olympia demonstrations from Wednesday, Nov. 7th to Thursday, Nov. 15, demonstrators non-violently resisted the use of the Port of Olympia by the military as part of Olympia Port Militarization Resistance. Hundreds of Olympia activist were either targets of assault by a police office and/or witnessed an assault. Unfortunately, many of these eyewitnesses and survivors have yet to come forward and reports have yet to be recorded.
The City of Olympia must be held accountable for the actions of its employees - the Olympia Police Department. Your stories are necessary to challenge and change our city's policies.
Through documenting the powerful first hand testimonies and calling for an independent review board of Olympia Police Department actions, we can change the way police conduct themselves in our community.
If not for yourself, do it for one other. Do it because you don't want this trauma inflicted on another protester voicing dissent against this war and you refuse to be silent. Do it because the struggle doesn't end at the main gate of the Port of Olympia.
