Hello, my name is Shannon and I am writing an essay about the Stormans boycott for my writing class at Evergreen. This piece will not be published. I would love to meet/interview people who have personal experience with the boycott movement, rather than people who just have opinions about it. So, if you have been to a Stormans picket, have chosen to boycott Stormans, or have any other personal stories to share regarding your personal experience with Stormans or Plan B in Olympia, I would love to hear your story. I don't care what side of the picket line you're on, really. I just want to hear real stories from real people. Please email me at maryshannonkelley@yahoo.com if you are willing to let me interview you about your experience.
Many thanks,
Shannon
PS - Don't forget the second "e" in kelley. Thanks :o)

Colin Stryker's award-winning documentary, River Ways, will play at the Olympia Film Festival at the Capitol Theater on Thursday, November 8 at 5:30 PM. The film explores the lives of working people affected by the issue of whether to remove the Snake River dams in Eastern Washington. Combining interviews with careful everyday observation, “River Ways” takes us into the world of wheat farmers, fishermen, salmon advocates and more. What emerges is a complex portrait of an issue that reaches to the heart of the ideological differences that characterize and divide the Pacific Northwest. The film will play at: Thursday, November 8 at 5:30 PM Capitol Theater, 206 5th Ave SE, Olympia, WA Colin Stryker, the director, will be present for Q&A. For more information, visit http://www.sawgrassproductions.com/river_ways, or http://olympiafilmfestival.com, or email info@sawgrassproductions.com What some viewers have said: “...attention to detail and character are so rich and illuminating, so wholly unintrusive, that you find yourself lulled into something you weren't quite expecting.” “[Colin Stryker has] a gift for finding the right people, getting them to say the right things, then drawing attention to what was said.” “The ultimate environmental film.” Come support the Olympia Film Festival and check out this engaging new film!

Nov 4 2007 - 8:00pm Military Ships Return to Olympia

I went to the opening night film at the festival last night. I am having a strange reaction to the film. I enjoyed the film, it was entertaining and somewhat informative. It seemed like a mostly accurate representation of real life, in terms of the sets/scenes and the peoples and cultures. But I think I am having a hard time with the juxtaposition of a feel-good movie with the brutal reality, with the consequences, of outsourcing.

Awhile back we talked about the idea of an explosive round, and I explained that there was no such thing within the civilian capability. There's still nothing civilian legal, but a friend sent me a link to an explosive shotgun/grenade round that has an incredible range. It isn't until about 6:45 in the video, but the first part of the video goes over a full-auto shotgun that is being tried with the military, it looks very impressive.

I was recently in Olympia, Washington. This is the capitol of Washington State. For those of you who have never been to Olympia, it’s small and clean, like Reese Witherspoon. Read more: Olympia, Washington |
