Hiya All- OK, more bad news…my wife (“the lovely and taunty E”), almost lost her life this AM getting run-over by a semi on the corner on Fones road this morning. Green Cab, green & red lines intertwine for logo, single trailer, around 7:30am Bicycling in this area is getting to be a lethal proposition… So, if a driver runs over a bicyclist, what is the legal penalty? In Olympia? In Lacey? In Tumwater? In Thurston Co.? In WA St.? In the US? I do not see how someone can run over a bike, much less a person, or for that matter even animals! If I could make automobiles illegal I would! I am so p*ssed off! I keep thinking of that lady who got killed recently, and the injustice makes me boil! I think that if you kill someone while driving a car you should be held accountable for taking a life.
» And today (from the 0 ) another accident

I just found another local blog on The Olympian: Hot flashes, cool dates.
» An introduction Looks like Tammy started blogging 1/12 of this year, comments are enabled and already active. She is also listed as Tammy Stevens: Librarian/News Assistant for The Olympian. Tammy is a good writer and her adventures are well worth a read. We were chatting online that Valentine’s Day afternoon, with both of us telling the other we had no plans. One thing lead to another, and he very sweetly said, “Do you want to be my Valentine this evening?” Awwww, that’s soooo sweet. So, we decided we would meet for coffee first at a nearby Starbuck’s, and if things went well, we would go to dinner. Seems pretty simple right? Not!(Note to The Olympian: Please set up all your online blogs with an rss feed, thank you.]

Hiya All--
» I'm gonna get answers, and may even change a law or 2 if I don't like what I find-- I called the WSP to find out more about how the WSP determines fault for bicycle accidents-- This got me thinking: Ferrell was struck about 6 p.m. Thursday by a car travelling in the same direction as her bike. A State Patrol sergeant said Thursday that he thinks Ferrell was struck as she attempted to make a left turn into the Blue Heron Bakery. The driver of the car was not speeding or otherwise at fault and will not be cited, State Patrol Sgt. Tom Martin said Thursday. Martin said he does not think Ferrell was wearing a helmet, and her bike did not have a light. full story

I'm talking about corporate oversight--
» something on olyblog about losing the downtown got me thinking... the community need protection from corporations, and lots of folks want to use the public spaces (like sidewalks) for other than just walking-- the city is pressured by $$$, by ideas of wealth, but political power could be ursuped by the intelligent and coherent here is a blurb about, "The council unanimously supported amendments to the California state and U.S. Constitutions declaring that corporations are not granted the protections or rights of natural persons and that expenditure of corporate money is not constitutionally protected free speech." --WOW, sounds neato-- Can "we" in Oly make this happen, get control of how our space is divided for use? In essesnce, why can't citizens buy a chunk of land in the city and DO WHAT WE WANT WITH IT, like I dunno, provide a nice hostel and civic center I for one am put-off by the discussion of class in Oly-- what is that about? just useless talk-- Did any "homeless" person apply for a permit for tent city? Does the "homeless" community have any potential for effective work on this issue, or are they to deep in it? I think an advocate would be better (more effective)-- The bottom line is that the city is a monied geography (in my opinion this is bad). Without money you become "homeless" (I guess)-- The real issue of class is between folks & corporations, so I think the best bet would be to attack the gentrifying capital-- PS- sori for typos, just smashed this out-

this was something I typed up and posted in the Olympian comments to answer some of the questions that were being asked about Camp Quixote and the PPU. I thought I'd share it here as well.

The Great Backyard Bird Count runs Feb. 16 -19 this year, free to participate, everyone encouraged to join in, and it can take as little of 15 minutes of your time.
» How to Participate - It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! 1. Plan to count birds for at least 15 minutes during February 16 - 19, 2007. Count birds at as many places and on as many days as you like - just keep a separate list of counts for each day and/or location. 2. Count the greatest number of individuals of each species that you see together at any one time, and write it down. 3. Enter your results on the Great Backyard Bird Count web site! You can grab a tally sheet specific for your area, spend 15 minutes or so enjoying birds, and submit your results to help our feathered friends out. Scientists and bird enthusiasts can learn a lot by knowing where the birds are. Bird populations are dynamic; they are constantly in flux. No single scientist or team of scientists could hope to document the complex distribution and movements of so many species in such a short time.I encourage local folks to blog here on their experiences, tell us about those birds, share any photos you get.
