Just got word that a) the Unitarian-Universalist Church has offered to let Camp Quixote use their property to set up and, b) because of this the city isn't going to disperse the camp but is giving the people 24 hours to move.

Hiya All-- So, I'm down here as a first time user of the TRL WiFi net, and it was easy to get online. So I was pondering the homeless stuff going on in Olympia--
» What a difficult problem to address! So much emotion...I wonder why I find myself clothed, fed, and housed? What did I do, or not do, that put me here (or is that "got me here"... Money is just a tool to get more free time, or to exert your will on others-- Money=Time That is why long hair is such a statement: it takes time to grow your hair long...gotta keep to that course not to cut your hair-- When I was 15, I started to punk-out-- Back in the 80's Puyallup was THE hub for the rock scene in The PacNW...we had it all... so, of course all us young-bloods just had to have long hair-- it is amazing how folks see you differently when you have long hair and use eye liner So, I'm not sure what to make of this Tent city stuff-- I bike around, scoot in&out of the OLY core alot, and I don't know what the folks in Tent City expect-- If I was busted flat with no cash (which I assume is the case with the tent city folks), I'd make plans to head south, into the sun lands...make some money picking fruit/vegs during this season, and then spend next fall/winter in Mexico surfing...or goto Cali and get a clippn job ;-) If you "got it together" and are not a drug addict you can even get into places like Arcosanti in AZ-- SO, I dunno-- I'm inclined to say the Oly got nothing for the Tent Posse-- OLY is about state jos, lobbying, sound-bites, and just chilln out-- What is a trip is how f*cked-up the Olympian chat boards are, so full of hate! see you on a bicycle (let's rage!)

I'm not into dramatic entrances/exits, but I feel that I owe some of you the courtesy of at least saying, "later". As opposed to just disappearing from the blog. For my own well-being I feel I can no longer be a part of this community. I've typed and retyped this message a few times now, and cannot seem to come up with the proper description for my reasoning....at least not a polite one. Some of you are just a little too much for me to take. I'm sure I'll run into some of you around town, and plan on stopping by the broho (or wherever the new meeting place is) once in awhile to say "Hi!". I wish you all the best in your endeavors, Norm

and I found two ladies there filling up their jugs and talking about how great things which cost money in downtown Olympia were, and what a shame it was that there were so many poor people in such close proximity to those things.
» SUDDENLY A GREAT WIND SWEPT THROUGH and I found myself surrounded by bison. They were clearly thirsty, so I slowly and deliberately edged away from the well. To my surprise, I backed into someone, and turning around I found that it was a beautiful woman. She said, "Would you like a drink?" and I glanced back at the well. The bison were gone! Full of joy and glad to drink, I leaned down and let the water run into my mouth. But with my first gulp, I felt something gritty in my throat. I looked around, then looked back at the well, only to find that it wasn't a well at all! It was the tailpipe of one of those two ladies' cars, and they were on their cells calling the police! Alarmed, I stood up, and suddenly a great laugh filled my ears. I turned towards the sound, but saw only a raccoon quickly scampering away. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Last night, I used the bus to come home from downtown, as I do from time to time. I picked up the 48 to Evergreen on 4th, in front of Bayview Thriftway about ten to seven. Things were normal until we got to Division and Harrison, where the bus driver turned right onto Division. Now, that's one way to get to Evergreen, but the 48 is supposed to go to the mall first.
» Passengers from the back asked if the bus wasn't supposed to go to the mall and the driver replied that he'd turn around. Which he did. It was sort of fun to turn left into the Westside Center parking lot, in a bus, and work through the pedestrians and parked cars and back out onto Harrison. Things returned to normal. The driver took us to the mall, where he then berated one of the group of passengers who had first noticed the wrong turn. It was for horseplay, but I wondered if it was related to shame in his error. When we left the mall stop, the driver turned left onto the road that heads west out of the mall to Cooper Point (which has a name now -- it's on a street sign at the new light on Cooper Point -- but I don't remember it), and then turned right onto Kenyon. By the time we reached Harrison and were in the right lane, I realized that the driver had taken another wrong turn. We should have driven straight out of the mall to Cooper Point. This time, I asked if we weren't supposed to go to Evergreen and the bus driver, who had now turned right onto Harrison, heading downtown, said he'd turn around. Two wrong turns in 10 minutes. The driver turned around in the parking lot of the strip mall just east of Wendy's and then turned left on Kenyon to pick up the route again. I got off at Cooper Point and 14th, so I don't know the final count of wrong turns, but I wonder what was going on in that driver's head. Either way too much or not quite enough, I'd say.

Josh blogs on Amishrobot about Tape Shadows, an art show by Joe Penrod currently running until Feb. 28 at The Black Front Gallery (106 4th Avenue E. Olympia).
» Check out the links to great photos and descriptions, the show itself looks intriguing. Josh's blog has comments enabled. Oh and Joe is his twin brother. Me, I was grabbed by this in the Tape Shadows post: Olympia was very wet and very beautiful and very wet and also very wet. I took a lot of photos, most of them include some form of moss or hippies, and sometimes mossy hippies. I already can tell that this will be rolling around in my head all day. Go see the gallery show and also remember: our wet is beautiful.
