I know about this because I was there. The other survivors of the incident, bespeckled and tattooed barristas, have gone into hiding or into self imposed exile, so horrible was the incident that it scarred their psyches for life. It was during the blackout. I was in Batdorf and Bronson on Capitol Way, among the yuppies on the one hand, the barristas probably annoyed at serving the yuppies on the other, with a small crowd of unclassifiable freaks, of which I was one, rounding out the crowd. Suddenly, we heard a crack and the power went out. No one knew what happened or what to do. Some people made their way to front door only to find that the security system had dead bolted the door shut. In desperation, some yuppies started pounding on the plate glass windows. Unfortunately, Batdorf and Bronson had recently replaced their windows with shatter resistant glass.

We are still accepting submissions for tomorrow's debut of On Oly's Personal Shit. In part because we have not received any yet. That we are admitting to this says something about the kind of advice that we dish (if we actually get any questions). Just ask us for our advice; we will give it. As previously stated, we will respect all desired anonymity.

Help has arrived from Canada! The following video is highly valuable and informative regarding the lead up to the war and some of the behavior of key decision makers that precipitated the invasion of Iraq:

I'm for seeding Capitol Lake with Alligators.
» This will have many benefits. First, It will increase tourism. It will create an industry that has been ignored for far too long in these parts: Alligator wrestling. It will create a market for those alligator shirts that were so big in the 80's. This will be a great environmental advantage; I'm sure there are plenty of these shirts in some warehouse somewhere just going to waste. It will give Olympia a mascot that will be the envy of the west. It will start a new exotic pet craze that will be the next big thing for single women and celebrities the like (men in pickup trucks will like it too). I will vote for anyone who is forward thinking enough to support this measure.

Very interesting, thanks for the link Blog Green.
» ...Organizing themselves and imagining strategies to defeat the Architects of Despair was not an easy task for these mamas. They came from different places and spoke different languages. Sora was from Chile; Olivia was a black woman whose family lived in Bushwick for as long as she could remember; Celia was from Ecuador, and there were other mamas who came from around the world. Despite their differences, they created a new organization called Pachamama: the Bushwick Childcare Cooperative.

I couldn't make this up. For two mornings in a row I found a voice message on my work phone from a very polite realtor looking for Mr. Yu. The realtor had an English accent and was calling from Hong Kong. His second message had a sense of urgency, so, using the clues he left I tracked him down on Internet and emailed him to try another number. The name of his firm? Ka Man Properties. I'm not kidding. I related this to a couple OlyBlog docents and they pointed out "I" was missing from the blank space in Ka Man, and, the realtor was looking for Yu. Gulp! As an aside, "caiman" in German is "kaimane." Considering the history of caimans and OlyBlog, I highly doubt this whole episode is "coincidence."

You know those Mrs. Butterworth syrup bottles (like Tang, once glass, now plastic) that are in the shape of a matronly and kindly middle-aged woman? And the marketing campaign that has the bottle gliding and talking? Am I alone in thinking this is too weird? Think about this. First, in order to get to the syrup, we have to unscrew the top of her cranium. How painful is that going to be for her? Then, we tip her over and empty the liquid contents of her innards through her head!!!! How repulsive and disgusting is that, I ask you? On a morning in recent history, I was emptying Mrs. Butterworth's liquified inner organs on my stack of empty calories, and I heard her scream, "Pour me! Pour me!" It took me a minute, but then I realized she was really pleading, "Poor me! Poor me!" That was real appetite killer, let me tell you. And then, when we are finished with her, we just throw her away. Just like that. Maybe a few of you more progressive types recycle her. But what's the difference? Either way Mrs. Butterworth the bottle person becomes merely a commodity. O these are evil days indeed. |
