Alright Oly, the votes are in and we're averaging about a 4.3 out of 5 on our peer reviewed advice.  We're now accepting submissions for this Sunday's advice column(s).  As always, you'll remain as anonymous as you request.

Send all questions to:  oolyps(at)gmail(dot)com.  Our finite wisdom is at your disposal, Olympia.

from Olympia Poetry Network's website

In honor of National Poetry Month, Board members of the Olympia Poetry Network, will channel the works of favorite dead poets, proving that those who came before us still come alive when their works are read. This year should prove to be interesting. Woody Guthrie is expected to show up as is James Wright. A lady poet (maybe one with multi-personalities or schizophrenia) who came to a tragic ending has put in a bid to appear. And a pyrotechnic display of quick-changing personalities might appear through the corporeal presence of Jim Bill. Marina Tsvetaeva, William Shakespeare, Pablo Neruda and Robert Frost are some of the names mentioned. After these illustrious poets have performed, the audience will be invited to share their own favorite dead poet poems in the Open Mike session. Please join us for an entertaining evening among old, but not forgotten, friends.

I've been poking around with the Google Calendar application along with tumbling around a few ideas about how to best organize events. Over the next several weeks I'll be experimenting with making Olympia area events discussed on OlyBlog an easy addition to your own Google calendar. For those of you who use online calendars aside from Google, my apologies for not supporting everything right away. This is, and will be, a process. If you'd like to sign up to the Olyvents Google Calendar, all you have to do is click this button:

Damn, these photos give me outright chills. Check out the very powerful Operation First Casualty done by the Iraq Veterans Against the War.

I first caught wind of this through Washblog, they have a great discussion of this action and also a poll to take at the end of the piece.

Silly game ~ but you should play too!

Five interesting things you may not know about me....

1.  I am afraid of deer.  I believe this stems from when we first moved to WA and my mother told me to stay away from the deer because they would trample me.

2.  I use my hands a lot when I talk.  Sometimes I embarrass myself and feel like the UPS guy from Mad TV.

3.  I *cannot stand* anyone touching my feet.

4.  I *cannot stand* other peoples feet.  And if someone elses feet should touch *my* feet?  *shudder*  If I were on Fear Factor and that was the challenge it would be my undoing!

5.  I like french fries with icecream.

A few days ago (the reason for my vagueness will soon become clear) I was downtown walking to the Timberland Library. I know my way around downtown pretty well, I might  not be able to give accurate driving directions complete with correct street names, but I could be set down on foot most anywhere and get to my destination. My feet know the way and my path often includes alleys and parking lot cut throughs. I get to where I want to go.

But this time I was influenced and I believe that influence continues and possibly has even permeated all of downtown. I was within view of the railroad tracks and had noted two people standing closer to the tracks, engaged in some mysterious business that involved standing still and gazing into the distance. No big deal but then I caught a flash of one person's face and became intrigued - they were extremely pale. Pale as in paper white. I took a closer focused look and slowly realized that I was looking at a.......mime.

I know that we've all had to suffer through the pledge drives on both public radio stations over the past week, and the last thing that people want to hear is one more request for cash, but we're down to the wire here. Get behind this important experiment in citizen participation and hyperlocal journalism. We need $150 to complete our goal and move on to the first phase of many good changes that will make OlyBlog an even more useful resource for the community. Give now and make a difference in the media landscape of Olympia.

Update: Thanks Dave! We're up to $400 now. Only $100 to go! Give it up people!

Thursday update: Thanks Mike and Vince! We're up to $450 now. Only $50 to go! Woohoo!
