The ENA is having its quarterly general meeting Thursday May 10 at 7 pm, at the Light and Life church on 7th & Fairview.  Somebody from the city will be talking about solid waste (fun!) and we'll have an update on last year's project to post cool signs around the edge of the neighborhood.

But the really interesting part is a discussion of what we want to do to improve the Madison Scenic Park.  (The park above the old Madison school, including that steep path.)  At board meetings, we've talked about community gardens, doing *something* about the old stage, and fixing up the path.

If we get a plan, we'll be looking for help from the city and other grant money.  (And of course volunteer help.)

If you live in the neighborhood, I really want you to be there.  Yes, renters are welcome!  The neighborhood association board needs your cool and crazy ideas to propose something that can be enjoyed by everybody.

Also, there will be snacks and coffee.  (Show off your cookie-making or -buying skills, too, and bring treats to share.)

(The formal agenda can be found on the ENA website, and on the front page of the newsletter hitting neighborhood homes soon.)

Have you got branches that need to be chipped? The city is providing a FREE chipper, Saturday May 5 at 609 Frederick St SE; we're the third event of the day, so they'll probably be at our location around 11:30 a.m. You can start dropping off branches at 6:30 a.m.; go down the alley behind Frederick.  (The pile will be very obvious!) Download the Chipping Event flier for additional information.

What can I chip?

  • Limbs and branches up to 6” in diameter (longer is better).
  • Woody debris from shrubs and plants.

What can’t I chip?

  • Vines like ivy and blackberry.
  • Holly or other thorny material.
  • Juniper.
  • Twisted branches like rhododendron.
  • Limbs with wide forks.
  • Dirt-covered branches.
  • Lumber—we can’t risk damaging the machine with a nail.
DO NOT bring anything that can't be chipped!

-To Build a Radical, Co-op (member-owned), opensource Free Speech, Social Networking Website Which Would be Better than Myspace, Youtube, Livejournal, Match.com, Dontstayin.com and Indymedia... Combined.

Myspace.com (owned by Fox news, an extremist right-wing, war-promoting multinational media corporation), Youtube.com, (multinational corporate, owned by Google), Livejournal.com, (corporate owned), Match.com, (charges over $25.00 per month) and Indymedia.org (run by a few volunteer individuals who sometimes censor based on personal opinions).

E-mail interviews of Oly artists in conjunction with current shows around Olympia. The format of the interviews is as follows: three questions are e-mailed to the artist, the artist responds to the three questions, the answers are mulled over, one final question is e-mailed to the artist and the artist responds. All questions and answers are posted on OlyBlog.

My goals are: to promote the local artists and art scene, allow artists to express themselves in a nontraditional format, allow a potential audience to experience the art slightly differently than the status quo and to get to know local artists in a fun and playful manner.

If you are an Oly Artist with upcoming or currently accessible art in the Olympia area and you're interested in an e-mail interview, please contact me at: wordsrend(at)gmail(dot)com. If possible I would like to see your work prior to extending questions. A .jpg of your work to accompany the interview on OlyBlog would be super fantastic.
