Join us as we protest Ralph's Thriftway Pharmacy's policy of refusing to stock emergency contraception.  Feel free to bring your own sign-- however, there will be extra signs available at the picket.  I hope we see you there!

Oly blogger Jane Johnson on her blog seajane has the story: Dog Food.

I knew something was up about tainted dog food but I did not know that 3,168 pets have died. Jane has put together a thorough, informative post about ongoing investigations.

Friends and Elders,
Peace to all of you!

In continuance of last Thursday's discussion after OBSESSION, we shall be having PEACE TALKS between Republicans, Peace Movement and muslims ! Come talk about different 'Obsessions' tonight!

Time - 7:30 PM to 8: 30 PM
Date - 04-05-2007, Thursday
Place - http://www.islamiccenterofolympia.org/
Directions - click the link above.

Format - Ground rules, feedback, 5-6 breakout groups with facilitators / Peace Makers. (Ms. Marijke Van Roojen, Quaker Friends and FOR, Molly Gibbs, Glen Anderson, Jody Tiller)

Thank you for all your help and support to deconstruct the arguments for the upcoming "new and improved" IRAN invasion!

Ayub

(Why are we making such a big deal out of this movie ? Because this is the foundation of the same kind of propaganda lies that were used to justify the IRAQ war; if we in the PEACE party had not been sleeping, we could have nipped it in the bud ! SEE http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=bedier for the rest of the story!)

The 2006 David Neiwert Award from best neighborhood news gathering went to us:

OlyBlog is an online destination "devoted to hyperlocal news and discussion" with a focus on the city of Olympia. Run by volunteer citizen journalists, it is an exemplary example of successful neighborhood newsgathering. Its slogan says it all - "We Are the Media". (An older, more humorous slogan was "This ain't CNN"). The site not only allows users to post stories or entries, but also encourages inclusion of video and imagery as well. It features chat, links to local artists, events, and forums. Posts range from politics to dining to theater reviews. There's even an advice column and court reporting. A significant number residents from the from the state's capital city have joined the site since it was initially founded in 2005. It will be exciting to watch OlyBlog continue to evolve as 2007 progresses.
I think we prefer hyperlocal to neighborhood news though.

The Committee in Solidarity invites all of you to a night of fun and dancing to benefit CISPES's material aid project for this calendar year. The event is on Friday April 13, in the basement of the Eagles Hall (806 4th ave, Oly) beginning at 8pm. Suggested Donation of $7-10.00.
Rick Chavez of the Hip Hop Group La Paz will do some hip hop/spoken word and then will deejay our late into the night dance party! Rick most recently performed in Olympia when his mother Dolores Huerta spoke on International Women's Day. Dance music will include Deep Funk, Hip Hop, Reggae, Salsa, Cumbia, and Brazilian Beats!
Material Aid goes directly to the struggle in El Salvador for Social and Economic Justice.  Each year CISPES choses several project/organizing proposals to fund.  Information about the specifics of this year will be available at the event.
