-Wyoming's coal-fired power plants produce more carbon dioxide in just eight hours than the power generators of more populous Vermont do in a year. (full article )

If you don't know already Wyoming is my home state 20 out of 25 yrs. From the time I was able to understand politics and the way the world works I have disagreed with where Wyoming stands on just about every issue out there. This article sums up the majorities attitude in Wyoming. In their defense theres not a whole lot of other forms of energy available to Wyoming, I mean it's not like half of the state is flat and covered in WIND or anything, I have definetly never read an article about my hometown telling us that it was one of the sunniest locations in the country.

The difficult part is trying to get places like Wyoming to change the way they use our "Natural Resources" you try and tell them what to do and they will fight you to the death. But, if you show them how much money they can make by changing then slowly they will change.

Any thoughts?

The following article is transcribed here from the Western Independent, v. 3, no 9 (June 1905). This bit ran in a series of columns called "Little Preachments and Editorials From a Contrary Pen." This monthly publication was issued by Olympia's short-lived People's University . Spelling is transcribed as found:

Are Loggers Fools
What Is the Meaning of a Three Days' Celebration in Olympia?

Either the loggers are fools, and some of the business men mercinary to a corrupt extreme, or many of us fail to understand the patriotic spirit that demands a three or four days' celebration. The Fourth of July is the day and the only day that patriotic citizens, who are not influenced by mercinary principles, wish to celebrate as our national birthday, and the beginning of a new order of things in human government.

It is only in the West that the patriotic occasion is debauched by favoring those who wish to get money from the loggers who patronize the saloons. It looks as if Olympia's celebrations can justly be called a "saloon celebration," rather than a day commemorating the passing of Richard Henry Lee's famous resolution, which declared the United States to be "free and independent states."

Coup Co-Conspirators as Free-Speech Martyrs
Distorting the Venezuelan media story

Government actions weighing on journalism and broadcast licensing deserve strong scrutiny. However, on the central question of whether a government is bound to renew the license of a broadcaster when that broadcaster had been involved in a coup against the democratically elected government, the answer should be clear, as McElwee concludes:

The RCTV case is not about censorship of political opinion. It is about the government, through a flawed process, declining to renew a broadcast license to a company that would not get a license in other democracies, including the United States. In fact, it is frankly amazing that this company has been allowed to broadcast for 5 years after the coup, and that the Chávez government waited until its license expired to end its use of the public airwaves.

A Warfighter Symposium & Expo is coming to Tacoma, June 4-6, 2007
The SpecOpsWest 2007 will preview new products, services and emerging technologies for today’s warfighters! (Just what the world needs!)

It's a sad commentary that the "defense" trade show is setting up its tent here in the Northwest. Spending our tax dollars on increasingly sophisticated tools of war, with the death and devastation they bring, is not the way to bring peace or to end terrorism. At least 73 exhibitors will be here to peddle their wares. Join us and the Chain Gang in Protest. There may also be an "inspirational address" from a corporate outreach representative from the Maximillion Bucks, Inc. political assaulting firm.

Let's give the Merchants of War a true Northwest greeting. Join us in Tacoma at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center Monday June 4th, 2:30-6pm with other actions to be announced! Let them hear us loud and clear: "We don't want your war wares here!"
