Terra Commons presents,

A fascinating evening with
Eugene, OR ~ culture change advocate

Jan Spencer

July 28th, 2007 7pm
Traditions Fair Trade Cafe
300 5th AVE

Jan will weave together aspects of economics, urban land use, US foreign policy, global trends, Permaculture, and human potential in a unique analysis the concludes unprecedented eco logical culture change is highly recommended.

The presentation will show how many assets and allies of culture change already exist, some of them closer than we might think. Spencer will explain the term ‘culture of cohesion’ and how reinventing the urban landscape can be a catalyst for helping bring about this new paradigm.

Jan is currently writing a book about Eugene and Cascadia 30 years into the future and 15 years into recovery. Copies of Jan’s book ‘Global Trends - local Choices – towards an Eco Humanist New Culture’ will be for sale. To see Jan’s place and articles and essays Jan has written along with a YouTube video tour of his property, go to: www.suburbanpermaculture.org

This is the night I am most excited about..the performers are:

Wendy Atkinson
from Vancouver B.C, she plays bass and has performed with Mecca Normal.

Wood Paneling
from Mason County..after a two year disappearance, the sons of Mason County return covered in sludge and bringing forth invocations of rotted out abandoned cabins.

Eric Ostrowski
one half of the legendary NOGGIN..his musical performance will be accompanied by the showing of his film "Burn".

Midmight
from San Francisco, this lady is famous in the noise scene for being phenomenal and blowing away the audience members of the Wooden Octopus Skull Exp Fest in Seattle last year with her collage electronics all while wearing a lampshade on her head.

Noisettes/L.A.M.P/100 Pieces/Walrus Machine SUPERGROUP
from Seattle, this is going to be a skronky noise and electronics explosion.

Hans Grusel's Krankenkabinet
from San Francisco -they are personally the band I am most excited to see. They are most akin to Caroliner performance-wise, donning elaborate neon costumers. Their music is my favorite part - it is eerie and amusing, with crinkly electronics reminding one of the film "Carnival of Souls" and amusement parks. Their cover of "Tea For Two" was a big hit on WFMU. They don't play in the NW very often at all, and they most certainly have never played in Olympia before, so this is going to be a treat indeed.

All of this can be yours in the Eagles Hall basement - 5 p.m.

I don't know it this is really related to the Elks Lodge mural project in Olympia, but I find it facinating.

I deplore violence and yet, I'm wondering what would bring a group of kids to such an act.

Maybe a prevention project like we're trying to promote, will provide a positive outlet.

Everyone take care and I'll look forward to more when I return from "Five Days in Hell" (aka Phoenix in Summer)
