I urge everyone who can make it to join me at St Pete's monday morning to support the picketing nurses. I'll be there with pastries and juice, if someone could brew alot of coffee that would be awesome. The more community support we show, the sooner they can get back to the job they love, which is CARING FOR YOU AND I WHEN WE ARE SICK. These are the most caring individuals in the health care industry, and they're being pushed around. WE CAN NOT ALLOW IT. If you can't make it to the picket, please write a letter of support for the nurses and send it in. These people work long, hard hours out of compassion for their fellow human beings, and they deserve better than what they're getting. Get mad, raise your voice, and together we can break their haughty power.

SOLIDARITY FOREVER!

The following is from Early History of Thurston County, Washington by Mrs. George E. Blankenship (1914):

Although the Eastern people regarded the extreme west as wild and woolly, and do so still to a less extent, yet the fact remains that the standard of civilization has always been held high. The country from the first was peopled by an educated and refined, but hardy people, who, with the courage of their convictions, held morality in great esteem, especially as applied to the integrity of the home, and enforced its recognition with rigid firmness.

I recall a man living in the primitive Olympia, who had a large family and was brutal in his treatment of both wife and children. The ladies of the town held a mass meeting and addressed a letter to the brute, notifying him to mend his ways or be treated to a coat of tar and feathers, prepatory to being conducted to the city limits. The man took the delicate hint and left town soon after. There are old ladies living in Olympia today who signed that letter.

As soon as I can figure out how to get the pictures off my cell phone's "mini chip" and put them on my computer, I'll post the shots of the work that the kids are doing on the mural at the Elks Lodge.

Calling all technoids. Old man, that thinks technology is Pong, in need of help.

Meanwhile take a drive or walk past the lodge and see some great work.

All are welcome, but those 17 and under must have signed parental permission, 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Questions? Contact Olympia Volunteers in Parks (VIP) Coordinator Todd Smith at 753-8365.
