I've been trying to figure out the approximate age of several OlyBloggers based on the content of their posts. To be honest, I'm having a hell of a time with some of you. One day, you sound like you're twenty. The next, you sound like you're old enough to be one of my grandparents. I'm in my mid-20s, so I had the joy of spending some of the '90s as a teenager. (Generation X. Hooray.) I guess I'm just curious as to what the median age is, here. I think it would help me (and others) to understand where some of you are coming from with your viewpoints.

For those that don't know, I'm a Big Brother. I meet with my Little Brother each week at the Boys and Girls Club, along with other Bigs and Littles. Its simple, scheduled, and only costs me a couple hours each week, with driving time included. I bring this up for a couple of reasons. First - because there is a real need for men to participate in mentoring and coaching boys. (women for girls also, but not as much need) The payoff is that these kids love the attention and I've personally witnessed the improvement in kids who are mentored. My second reason is a bit more humorous. As I was spending time with my Little Brother, there was a little girl at the Club with her Big Sister (a high school senior). The little girl looked at me and declared "you're the oldest Big Brother I've ever seen in my life". After a good laugh, it reminded me that I'm more a grandfather figure than a Big Brother. My Little Brother doesn't mind, but it certainly reminded me of the need that we have for younger men that could spend a little time with some boys. Think about it, guys (and ladies). If you've got the time, the kids have the need. Big Brothers Big Sisters (360)943-0409

This is from The Pioneer and Democrat Apr. 8, 1859: A Shock "About five minutes after 2 o'clock on Saturday morning last, a shock of an earthquake was sensibly felt by the citizens of this locality. Its continuance is said to have been about 1 1/2 minutes-- the oscillations being apparently from north to south. The night was perfectly calm, and although no damage was done that we are aware of, buildings and their loose contents were considerably shaken, and some of our more nervous neighbors no little alarmed. This is the first visitation of the kind here in the recollection of that celebrated individual-- 'the oldest inhabitant'"

I was one of the butoh businessmen. We wore paper bags on our heads and our red fabric tongues rolled out at the Mitsubishi people. |
