I consider myself to be a pirate in some contemporary sense of the word. This is the lens through which I try to view our world. I am a nice pirate, where others rape and pillage I salvage and sow; where others sack and burn I liberate and grow. I pirate software, vegetables, herbs, bulk food aisles at corporate grocery stores, garbage, books, clothes, thrift stores, free boxes. I find homes for books lost on these high seas of a culture that, for the most part, doesn't read. I steal from the rich and give to the poor whenever possible. I try to be free in the fullest sense of the word and dream always of furthering that freedom.

I live with my twin three year old daughters on an old 250 acre farm outside of Shelton, Washington at the inner-most tip of Puget Sound. I try to live as a Green Rebel and a Pirate in this commodified world of disposable consumables. Does this mean I live a zero-sum harmonious existence with my local ecosystem, feeding wild animals by hand and growing or scavenging all my food while refusing to pay taxes and stockpiling an enormous underground arms cache of sustainably gathered weapons of creation? Well... not yet.

I can't report on any of the actual action so far this year, but Evergreen and St. Martins met in a scrimmage last Saturday and the Geoducks followed that up with a 5-1 beating of University of Great Falls at home on Monday afternoon.

Cody Lofquist led the Geoducks with two of those goals. Evergreen beat out Great Falls in shots, taking 20 to their 4.

Both St. Martins men and women will open tonight at Cal State LA.

Tomorrow night, Evergreen's womens team will face off against the University of British Columbia in Vancouver B.C.

And, at noon on Sunday, Evergreen men will play North Idaho College at home.

South Puget Sound will start their season a week from Friday.

Tolmie Cup Standings 8-23-07

Evergreen Men (3 points, 3 points per game)
Evergreen Women (0 pps, 0 ppg)
St Martins Men (0 pps, 0 ppg)
St. Martins Women (0 pps, 0 ppg)
SPSCC (0 pps, 0 ppg)

I am looking for some idea on good restaurants in the greater Olympia Area. My twelfth wedding anniversary is up coming and would be interested in some input on good restaurants that you have been to. I have been to the cafeteria at Target next to Capitol Mall. The nachos and cheese with jalapenos are good but the coffee was burnt. I have also been to the Costco food court and although the polish sausage was terrific, the pizza was very greasy. I am interested in hearing your two or three favorite restaurants, and maybe a high or low point about each.

Also anyone who is familiar with wine could possibly help me out with this. I am looking to match a wine to my anniversary. I am looking for a 1995 white, Pinot Gris/Grigio, Chardonnay, or Gewurztraminer. I am after a wine that is light and full of notes of fruit. If you have other suggestions as to varietals I am not limited to those grapes I listed.

The owners of local grocery store/pharmacy Ralph's Thriftway have filed a lawsuit against the state of Washington's Board of Pharmacy and Human Rights Commission over codes that require pharmacies to fill prescriptions without discrimination. Despite their insistence that Ralph's is a community-minded, locally-oriented store, the Alliance Defense Fund, an Arizona-based law firm, is masterminding this lawsuit. Check out the ADF website to get a sense of this organization's political agenda; they're all about "family values," and the "sanctity of life," (although they don't seem to care much about the lives lost in war).

The Alliance Defense Fund claims in a press release that "a few activists" have boycotted and picketed Ralph's. That's funny -- a few hundred people pledged to boycott, and more than 200 picketers turned out during the first days of the boycott last July. Despite the claims of the ADF, the truth is a lot of people think that pharmacies should meet the needs of all their patients without moral judgment. If you feel the same way, please join us for a big rally at Ralph's on Wednesday, 8/29, between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Signs will be provided on site, but please feel free to bring your own. Word on the street is that a Seattle TV news crew is planning to film the event, and at least one local politician is planning to attend. Don't miss it!
