Greetings from the Olympia Community Free School, Olympia's free classes and community learning space. Learners, educators, families, community builders and community members alike should all attend an awesome event we are sponsoring on September 30th at 5pm at Olympia's Traditions Fair Trade Cafe.

Come hear Chris Mercogliano speak and read about his experience as long-time director and staffperson at the Albany Freeschool, the nation's oldest independent, inner-city non-coercive school. His new book "In Defense of Childhood," has been lauded as, "The most soulful and authentic book about education since the writings of the radical critics of the 1960s, Holt, Kozol, Dennison, Kohl, and Herndon. . . . Mercogliano reminds us once again that true education is not a management technique but a human encounter."

The event will start at 5pm with a story-time read by members of the Olympia Theatre Project and kids songs by local musician Kimya Dawson.

Then, participate in a short "Envisioning Community Learning" workshop by the Olympia Free School staff and get information about education alternatives here in Olympia.

Please tell you friends and bring your family and money to donate to Chris' book tour. Sliding scale $5-$10! Kids free! No one turned away for lack of funds.

LISTEN, ASSHOLE! IF YOU ARE GOING TO RIP ME OFF, THEN AT LEAST BE DECENT AT IT...

I DON'T LIKE TO FIND KNOCK OFFS OF A PROJECT I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR NEARLY 5 YEARS LOOK THIS BAD.

Compair the shitty, knock off, with one of the birds done a few years ago, hmmm. Well since I have done thousands of these, and have been well documented on the internet, and in the community, perhaps you should try something new. Also, why would a profile view have two eyes???? At least when riping me off, remember I use one x...

If you continue to feel the need to rip me off, at least get some tips from my website

I attended an event sponsored by the Thurston County Auditor's office at the courthouse today. I needed to ensure I was able to vote and I was also interested in listening to Meta Hogan and Matthew Green speak. I have no idea who I'm voting for in Positions #3 (Strub vs. Thomas) and thought it would be a good opportunity to hear them speak as well.

I was surprised to hear that Hogan and Green were not present. Someone in the crowd spoke out when Hogan's name was called and it seems Hogan left before her time to speak. I don't know if this is true or not. I have no idea about Green's participation.

So, did Hogan really leave before speaking to those who were there to listen? If my vote was in swing, it wouldn't be any longer. The media in attendance was light but Diane Huber of The Olympian was present and taking notes.

Mark your calendars for the evening of October 5th (a Friday)! Bread and Roses, its staff, interns, and guests are proud to participate in the Olympia Arts Walk this year. Last Word Books has been kind enough to offer gallery space on the sidewalk in front of its business; an appropriate location in light of the highly contested Sidewalk Ordinance enacted by the City of Olympia in February 2007. The mixed-media art will include works by guests and friends of Bread and Roses. We will also be accepting donations of coats and blankets at this event in preparation for the cold, wet winter ahead of us. Make sure to include us in your perusal downtown and stop by for information about homeless outreach in Olympia. Hope to see you there!
