This year, precinct caucuses won't include an opportunity to discuss or vote on possible platform planks or resolutions. However, building an effective party platform is still an important activity. It’s the one chance we have every couple of years to clearly articulate our values, defining who we are and what we stand for.

We'll aslo have an oportunity to vote for your favorite presidential candidate in our straw poll.

Therefore, in an effort to provide opportunities for discussion and participation, we will offer a series of “pre-caucus forums” throughout the county, and, since it’s a presidential election year, we’ll be doing straw polls to determine preferred candidates at each forum.

David Domke*, a dynamic and popular speaker on framing the message in politics, will kick-off and help facilitate the first forum in Olympia on January 15. Participants at all three events will be able to discuss what they think should be included in the Thurston County Democrats' platform this year, submit resolutions, and “vote” for their favorite presidential candidate. You can begin the discussion early at www.thurstondemocrats.org/precaucusforums.

We hope you’ll take advantage of these opportunities to discuss issues important to you in preparation for the upcoming election cycle.

I'm organizing a community event for Camp Quixote on their one year anniversary. I need some help raising money for a space at the Olympia Center and to buy supplies. The space is around $600 up front, we have to pay when we reserve it, so I need to come up with it soon. Also, I remember someone mentioning making a plaque to present to the camp for being picked "OlyBlog Person of the Year". Is anyone willing to bottomline that?

Thanks

All-comers Bluegrass and Old-Time jams return after the holiday hiatus to second Friday and Saturdays at the Black Lake Grange Hall, 6011 Black Lake Blvd., Olympia.

The Friday night Bluegrass jam runs from 6 to 9 PM. Think fiddles, guitars, banjos, mandolins, string bass and resophonic guitars. Open mic session later in the evening. Call Jim to learn more (360) 943-4406

Everything continues at the Grange as the Black Hills Pickers host more jamin' from 11 AM to 4:30 PM. Open mic session later in the day. Call Bobbie to learn more (360) 273-8816

Both jams will continue into the Spring (April?) each second Friday and Saturday at the Grange.

Both: All experience and age levels welcome. You don't have to play or sing to have fun at the jam. If you just like Bluegrass and Old-Time fiddle music and would like to hang out with friendly folk these events are for you.

Stringed acoustic instruments (and the occasional harmonica) invited. If you can sing, so much the better! We'll pass the hat to help pay for use of the Grange. NO alcohol or drugs allowed.

Get to the Grange: from Olympia west side or S.R. 101, go south on Black Lake Blvd. all the way past Black Lake. Grange is at sharp right-hand turn where the road turns into 62nd Ave. Look for flashing light over road at fire station. Grange is just past it on the right.

This afternoon, saw an ambulance and firetruck on the 4th ave bridge near Bayview pick up a guy on a bike.  I couldn't find out what happened, but since they guy went off in an ambulance and the fire truck carried the bike off I presume he was clipped by a car or something...

Today, mortal enemies from The Olympian Online's forums came together in solidarity. People who habitually jumped down each other's throats, raked each other over the coals, and constantly flamed and abused each other without ever having any meaningful or constructive conversation have come together in the spirit of Peace, Love and Understanding.

And to think it was a real Dummy that brought them all together.

For the record whoever stole Trevor committed theft and vandalism and should be held accountable. Still, the humor which this incident has spawned inspired most of the regulars to trade their guns in for some roses. Unfortunately this may be as short-lived as WWI's Christmas Truce but it might inspire future generations of armchair opinionaters.

A short, spirited, albeit one sided "conversation" at the Brotherhood last night reminded me of why the progressive road is so bumpy and full of detours. And it reminded me of this...

I have gone over my reasonings and logic before about OC and don't have the time to rehash right now.  I am open to discussing why/how/etc...  about Open Carry.  I will leave with a couple of links and definitions.  Open Carry = OC, Concealed Carry = CC.   OpenCarry.org  Washington Forum on OCDO   I post as "sv_libertarian"
