enpen: Sometimes when I look at your photography I feel like I'm in the middle of such dense vegetation that I'm surprised I can't hear any bird and animal noises and sometimes they make me feel like my eyes must be playing tricks on me. What do you think about as you're in the process of creating one?

Jeremy Kraft: My pieces can be very thick and at times overwhelming. I include spatial cues that are intended to disrupt an overall sense of coherent space, yet come together to work as a unified whole. This can be contradictory to a typical state of visual awareness, hence the tricks.

In an age where it seems as if everybody has a camera, why do you choose to use that medium to work abstract images?

I feel I owe some of you an explanation as to why I came back to Olyblog and did so incognito.  There are many of you that I haven’t met, but consider friends of sorts.  I also have met a few of you, and respect many more of you.  Most of you know whom I’m talking about, as I have PM’d you, or had other conversations/contact with you.  So it is to you that I apologize for what may appear to be deceptive behavior on my part.  That certainly wasn’t my intent.

My leaving Olyblog had its genesis with the chief of police leading me to believe he wasn’t thrilled with my choice of screen names on the blog.  Although he didn’t ask or direct me to change it, I figured it was the right thing to do.  Since I was kind of burnt out with the blogging thing, I decided it was a good time to just quit.  I asked Rick to delete my account, as I was concerned I might go months without looking at the blog, and not know if someone hacked my account.  Rick agreed, and I became an occasional lurker. 

I wanted to respond to JustP in the Port Lawsuit thread but didn't want to hijack it.

The current college-aged generation, and in fact the generations of the past few years, have an annoying sense of entitlement. They feel that they deserve to have something merely because they want it. They want to lord their ideals over everyone else yet have plenty of excuses for when they wish to violate their own supposed values.

That's why they sue teachers who've given them failing grades, sue employers for firing them, sue tobacco companies after they smoke themselves into cancer or emphysema...soon enough they'll sue Olyblog for contributing to Macular Degeneration (and even alienation of affection)

They want to break the law, they'll do it. And then they'll complain when it's time to face the consequences. And in the spirit of wanting something for nothing they come up with 2.6 Million apiece.

Parks, Terrie Lee, 47, Olympia, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at home.

I'm writing this because I want to share Terrie's life, which mirrored the lives of so many women on the streets. I do not want Terrie to simply vanish without her story being told.

I met Terrie four years ago when I began my time at Bread and Roses, and have been friends with her to this day. Every time we would see each other on the street we would give each other a big hug and talk for a while. Terrie always wore way too much perfume. If you’ve ever known someone who does, you know that the person “stays with you” for the rest of the days after you hug them. It was worth it though just to see the joy she got from that intimate human contact, something her life, for the most part, had been devoid of.

The journey that Terrie and I went on was one that I’ll never forget. She touched my life so profoundly that I’ll never do justice to it with words. I’ll try my best.

So, I've had a viral flu thing-y since about Monday. It sucks. To pass the time in bed I've been watching tons of Star Trek The Next Generation. I forgot how much I love it. TNG has such a rosey outlook. It says to us "in the future, peace will come as the result of calm, reason and science." It's reassuring.

I remember an essay I read or talk I heard somewhere about different periods of time and their concepts of the future. It's hard not to compare the Star Trek version of the future to the I Am Legend, 28 Days Later apocalyptic dystopian versions.

I guess what I'm getting at is this, I miss the days when science fiction was about building a beautiful future, not surviving a terrifying cataclysm. Any good places to look for good fiction? Can anyone relate to this?
