http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6900&year=2007

Establishing vehicle engine displacement and emissions fees.

I don't like it. There is no reason to pay this kind of taxes.

EDIT: As a general sort of disclaimer, I don't own a car, haven't owned a car for 10 years or so, and don't have a valid driver's license.

EDIT AGAIN:  Here is the discussion where I learned of the bill.

(This was something I wrote in December for the Evergreen listserve. It was in response to an e-mail by someone who was harassed by the police after a jay walking ticket. I thought it might give some background and depth to my claim that the riot has historical roots.)

We are all oppressed not criminals. (December 1, 2007)

I always have Monday off, so am spending time clearing out and cleaning the inside of the boat and letting it air out.  Today pretty much concentrate on organizing at a lazy pace, tomorow will probably at least scrub down the cockpit.  Found a funny pic online to end this post, but it features a cat and a firearm so if either offend you don't click here..

Probably will have a stack o' books either tonight or tomorow to list free/trade as well.

Once again the Port Commissioners for Olympia and Tacoma will hold a public meeting about the proposed South Sound Logistic Center the meeting will take place Wednesday February 20th at 6:00PM at Worthington Center at the Pavilion at St. Martin's. The proposed South Sound Logistic Center is:

The Port of Tacoma has bought a 745 acre parcel of Rocky Prairie land located right in the middle of a sensitive area with Millersylvania State Park less than half a mile to the north and a state fish and wildlife reserve bordering it on the south. For 15 years, the state park and the wildlife dept have had their eye on this property, which, in combination with the neighboring McIntosh forest reserve, would create an amazing wildlife corridor and preserve several threatened native species. But the Port of Tacoma outbid them and wants to build a huge truck and train freight transfer station and possibly a solid waste transfer site (hauling garbage from all over the region) right in the middle of this precious swatch of undeveloped land.

If you have further questions please check out www.FriendsOfRockyPrairie.com or email forprairie@hotmail.com.

You've heard by now of the massive recall of beef slaughtered by a company in Califoria. Here's the Humane Society video that prompted it. Very disturbing. If you are a sensitive sort, do not watch it. It might get others, including myself, to reconsider consumption choices. While some folks believe there are no ethical alternatives to consuming animal products, some might at least be encouraged to seek more ethical alternaitves to these factories. Any information on local alternatives?

I presume all advisory meetings are open to the public, but I'm wondering if there's any time alloted for public comment? Or can citizens simply participate in the discussion?

The Planning Commission is meeting Feb. 25th with "Noise Ordinance Revision Briefing" on the adjenda. I would like to participate in that meeting.

Any words of advice on participating?
