Dave (my husband: big guy with a big fluffy beard) covered the dinnertime shift Monday night. He thought he'd be lonely, but nope. There were a flock of folks working on flamingos, Scott and Jackie moving the furniture around, and a huge amount of baked goods from the lovely Bread Peddler folks. (Did I mention I love the lovely Bread Peddler folks? Last year in the last days before the procession, their gifts of end-of-day gourmet leftover baskets were such a lifesaver. Once, as I scarfed down a ham baguette at 10pm, I realized that this was the only food I'd had since dinner the night before. I'd remembered to feed the rest of the family, just not myself.) The batik studio is set up now and rolling along. Come down and play with us! It's fun! It's free! No procession pictures tonight, sorry. I stayed home with sick kids and a BUNCH of blown fuses. Total nuisance.

I work at a company that is invested in supporting downtown local businesses.
» One of our perks is that we buy espresso from a local roaster (to remain unnamed) and have been doing so for about two years. The relationship with the local roaster made sense.. and until about 3 months ago, we were perfectly happy with the coffee we bought. It came to office consensus that we were tired of the roast we had been buying.. and the Baristas at the shop were more than happy to help us try out mixing a new blend. Overall the money we spent locally and the experience with the baristas had always been a pleasant one. For the last two months however, I think the baristas had a small curse placed on them. It has been impossible for orders filled timely, we were getting charged improperly almost every time.

“With our innovative NeighborWoods program and in-house tree nursery, Olympia is a national leader in municipal urban forestry,” says Olympia Mayor Doug Mah. “The community enthusiasm for our 1000 Trees in One Day event has been fantastic. As of today, over 500 community volunteers have stepped forward to help, and locations for over 1,000 new trees have been identified,” says Mah.

When you roll your own blog you get to make all the choices. And you can tweak and adjust and change things as much as you wish, within the limits of that particular blog platform. You can change the visuals. Often this is just a matter of choosing and clicking what template you want to use, no coding needed. You can run your own link list. You can make your own choices about who if any can leave comments. You can run a group blog, you can run your own blog, you can even keep your blog entirely for your eyes only. You can enhance your blog with all sorts of goodies such as google gadgets. You can use your blog as your own personal calling card. You get to choose your focus, your themes, and your style.

Last night while walking around downtown my partner noticed a "For Lease" sign in the window of Cielo Blu. I tried calling (352-8007) to see if they were going out of business or just changing locations, but the number has been disconnected.

If you want to understand the passion for compassion in the movement for animal justice, the depth of the effect of speciesism in our culture, and the connection between speciesism, sexism, and racism, see Earthlings which will be showing tonight at Capitol Theater. Don't miss it! |
