Lots of GI's live in or visit Olympia/Thurston County thanks to the neighboring influence of Fort Lewis. Also local National Guard units are heavily affected by long tours and constant rotations. This from the AP. By LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - The Bush administration plans to announce next week that U.S. soldiers' combat tours will be reduced from 15 months to 12 months in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning later this summer, The Associated Press has learned. The remainder of the article here.

Cut up and seared in a little oil some green bell peppers, some onion and garlic. Then tossed in some organic canned pinto beans and heated the whole mess. Eat with tortillas and seasonings or spices of choice. Modify with protein choices based on dietary preferences.

As the mother of a teenage girl, I am quite concerned about the two sexual assaults that have occurred recently in our neighborhood. (Statistically, females are more likely to be raped during their teen years than any other time in their lives.) It seems to me that the Olympian is moving kind of slowly in reporting on this event, especially since there is now a sketch available of the suspect. The sketch is shown on video on the KIRO-TV news website. <p> The rape which occurred Wednesday near the St. Martin's University campus is not that far from the sexual assault which occurred on March 17 at Indian Springs Country Club (Olympian story here). I haven't heard anyone mention that the crimes may be connected, but I'm sure the thought has occurred to other nervous people who live near these two locales. I emailed the Lacey PD, requesting the police sketch of the suspect to post to Olyblog, but haven't had a response from them yet. I can't believe that although this sketch is available, the Olympian hasn't posted it yet.

I have recieved some gentle prodding from a nutty vegetable lover (pun, ha-ha? No? okay. :-) about how to format my reviews of eating establishments without offending those of the non meat eating establishment. I'm an omnivore plain and simple and plan to stay that way, although I make pretty informed decisions most of the time about what I eat. That said, I don't want to debate idealogies or beliefs. Rather this is a request for help. If I eat an omnivore dish and review the restaurant based on that, or wish to call attention to certain menu items that are offensive to some, what is the best way of doing it? Take my last two for instance. Wally's does serve vegetarian meals, although I emphasized a certain product which led to said gentle prodding. Since they cater to ominvores and vegetarians I didn't put in any disclaimers. Now with Tugboat Annies they pretty much cater to omnivores and I put in a disclaimer about what was to follow. Personally everytime I eat out and want to write a review I am not willing to go veggie. Some places I plan to eat at specifically to try veggie, and others I want to eat at and be omnivore. So how can I express my enjoyment of an omnivore dish without disturbing the veggies among us, and yet still produce a review that is suitable for all? Like I say, no debate please. If I want to debate you'll know it, this is not one of those places.

What has always struck me as amazing about the assassination of Reverend King is the forgiving nature and willingness of his family to look into and then believe that James Earl Ray did not kill Dr. King, and then their efforts to have his conviction overturned and his good name restored. I wonder how many people would care enough about injustices done to someone accused and convicted of killing a loved one? And why was every effort made by the King family to do this blocked? I wonder if the government all these years later still has something to hide?
