He will always be "my president"

LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

As a kid, The Ten Commandments was a regular we watched at Easter. Great actor, great activist. He will be missed.

Actually I got this idea from rugerforum.com where those folks afflicted with excess doo-dads for their guns or whatnot simply post the item as a free "karma" Anyone interested in the particular item submits their name and after a given time, using a random number generator a winner is selected.

Two Olyblog Members have been very kind with freebies they no longer needed, and I am going to pass on the favor.

I have two vintage bottles (no pictures right now, sorry) that while I love them they are doing nothing for me on the boat.

The first two items are dual tone stoneware ginger beer bottles. A google image search of "ginger beer bottles" will produce many images of different bottles.  Both are marked "W Biscombe Plymouth" although they are different styels and markings.  One has a small crack in it,  but are intact.  I'll seperate the two.  One lucky person will get the older (although with a crack in the glazed finish) one and the other lucky person will get the newer of the two.

Let me know if you are interested.

I'll dig out some books and post them as well as a lot or two.

Any other Olybloggers have some "karma" they want to pass on?

On Sunday morning, April 6th, tune in to The Think Tank on KAOS 89.3 FM for a tribute to the late Gene Eugene, on what would have been his 47th birthday.

Gene Eugene was the frontman for the funk-rock band Adam Again. He was also one of the founding members of the gospel/Americana supergroup Lost Dogs.

In addition to this, he was a producer, engineer, and instrumentalist who worked with such artists at Over the Rhine, Richard Swift, Randy Stonehill, and Michael Knott.

He was also the owner of the Green Room studio in Huntington Beach, CA (he died there in his sleep on 3/20/2000).

On this tribute show, you'll hear lots of Lost Dogs songs as well as some Adam Again songs (including covers of Bill Withers, Leonard Cohen, and the Beatles).

There will also be some covers of Gene's songs, and interviews by two of the surviving Lost Dogs, Mike Roe and Derri Daugherty (also of, respectively, the 77's and the Choir).

The show begins at 10 am PST on KAOS and will broadcast until noon. You can hear it online here.

If you miss the show, it will be available online in the near future.

Just found a double charge from my cell phone provider which led to over $175 in overdraft fees...  now I get to try and fix that mess.

"Changes in Lattitudes, Changes in Attitudes" playing and I am enjoying a nice Alaskan Amber.

A few random thoughts that crossed my mind today.

Do you play the "Awareness Game" and if you don't why?

Look around you.  Look at the people, the vehicles near you.  Look at people's body language, attitudes.  What are they doing?  Could they be a problem?  Did that guy leaning against the wall start following you all of a sudden?  Innocent actions or does your heart beat a little faster?  Why did that group of two people split up all of a sudden and one of them approach you?  (I have had both incidences happen to me, one in Oly)

True story.  I was walking down State and was across the street from the Youth Service building.  Two people who had been simply standing on the sidewalk about 20 yards from me suddenly split up.  Person A starts walking towards me, and Person B crosses the street in a way where he could get behind me if he recrosses the street.

Ludwig Erwin Alfred Katterfeld ran as the Socialist candidate for Washington State Governor in 1916 on his journey to becoming an international Communist figure and a man who had views so dangerous he became a guest of Uncle Sam's Crowbar Hotel during the first Red Scare. He was in the Evergreen State for only a brief time. But what a time it was.

He was born July 15, 1881 in Strasbourg, when that city was under German rule. His Katterfeld ancestors had served as pastors for several generations, but his father was a high school teacher. His parents, Traugott Heinrich Karl Alfred Katterfeld (1850-1891) and Adelheide Wilhelmina (Karpinsky) Katterfeld (1850-1884) both died at a young age.

According to the 1920 U.S. census, Ludwig came to the United States in 1893, two years following the death of his father. The orphan was small, with dark hair and eyes, and he was very bright. When he graduated from high school in 1898 in Cloud County, Kansas, he was first in his class of 23 students.
