Do you think it would be appropriate to ban Chris Brownell (Tschida) from OlyBlog for a period of one month (based on his lack of tolerance, propensity for hostility, attacking behavior, obfuscatory remarks, and sheer Orwellianness)?

Do you think banning Tschida, and possibly other users who have demonstrated a consistent penchant for disruptive behavior, would be beneficial to your OlyBlog experience? Do you think it would it be of benefit to OlyBlog in general?

How do you feel about banning?

Disruptive Comments

I propose the deletion of disruptive and inflammatory comments from this post, if such comments should appear.
»

Sounds good

I support deletion of disruptive comments.

Yes

Personally, I myself could use the break, and possibly others could also.

An added idea, maybe we could set up a forum for all talk about docents. One forum, one place for people to lodge kudos and complaints.

»

I think

That is a great idea, Sarah.

I am not for banning Tschida. If he continues on a path of not creating hyper-local content then I vote he be shut off from Comments and have all posts put through moderation until he creates three original hyper-local posts. I think this should apply to everyone.

That could work too

And applying it to everyone sounds good too.

three og hyper-local posts remedy

I have some concerns about using that remedy, but the way you posit it above gives me reason to consider it more.

Maybe you have something there. My problem with it is that there is a basic disruptiveness evident in Tschida's OlyBlog behavior.

Perhaps the three hyper-local posts is like restorative justice, but I sincerely question Mr. Brownell's honesty. His behavior strikes me as that of a troll, and the best thing to do for a troll is to ignore them. Unfortunately OlyBlog doesn't have an ignore function, or I would certainly use it.

I like the idea of banning, but I am willing to give your remedial solution a try in case that is proves itself to be a capable solution.

No.

It's not a solution and doesn't scale beyond Chris.  You need a solution, not a cell.  Enpen's suggestions are closer to the actions I'd like to see taken.

If you ban Chris I think the case can be made for others to be banned on the same grounds.

EDIT:  And I believe Chris is exactly right with his views on Nader and the Presidency.

example of disruptiveness

Here's a perfect example of disruptiveness.

Your analysis that Chris is exactly right with his views on Nader and the Presidency are disruptive to this post.

Do you care to retract them or will you risk the deletion of your comment?

»

Uh, you are kidding right?I

Uh, you are kidding right?

I don't care to retract anything, Rob.  Delete it if you must.  I really couldn't care less.

»

not kidding at all

I think your comment was disruptive to the purpose of this thread.

OK, you're the boss, bert.

OK, you're the boss, bert.  Create your own party that conforms to your ideals and your definitions.  Be sure to publish the criteria so we can edit you as well.

the boss

I am not the boss and you're wrong to say so.

It is because of comments like yours that the docents are now forced to take disciplinary action for the good of the blog.

»

Well, now sounds like a perfectly good time to make the case

I prefer enpen's idea

and if anyone deserves to be slapped with it, then that's the way to go. Someone who routinely posts things like "How sad!" seems like he's asking for the opportunity.

I support banning

It's not as if certain people haven't been given chance after chance after chance. Rick and the docents don't owe posters here anything. If someone is continually disruptive and has driven away other participants who would make more positive contributions, they should be banned.
»

This thread is a perfect example

Look at this. Half of the comments on this thread are disruptive. Instead of addressing the original questions in the post, users (abusers) have instead chosen to further attack docents, docents who participate as volunteers, docents who have been put in a position of needing to facilitate and mediate acrimonious, uncomfortable and perplexing discussions.

I don't want to kick anyone out, but there is bullying occurring and it is unfair for those who want to participate without getting picked on to let the bullies have their way.

Docents will confer and make a decision.
