-Wyoming's coal-fired power plants produce more carbon dioxide in just eight hours than the power generators of more populous Vermont do in a year. (full article )

If you don't know already Wyoming is my home state 20 out of 25 yrs. From the time I was able to understand politics and the way the world works I have disagreed with where Wyoming stands on just about every issue out there. This article sums up the majorities attitude in Wyoming. In their defense theres not a whole lot of other forms of energy available to Wyoming, I mean it's not like half of the state is flat and covered in WIND or anything, I have definetly never read an article about my hometown telling us that it was one of the sunniest locations in the country.

The difficult part is trying to get places like Wyoming to change the way they use our "Natural Resources" you try and tell them what to do and they will fight you to the death. But, if you show them how much money they can make by changing then slowly they will change.

Any thoughts?

It's quite a mystery, isn't

It's quite a mystery, isn't it? How some can be motivated to lifestyle changes when presented with any evidence of the greater good of doing so and how others will not change, seemingly just to be contrary, despite the damage and destruction to others, and even themselves that results. Wonder what the magical difference is? :)

Dick Cheney is From Wyoming

Don't hate me

Don't hate me but my Grandmother went to grade school with Old DICK Cheney, there still friends today. Man that took alot to get that out in the open.

Chia- What's the Magical difference? One of the parts that annoys me the most is when you get some old dude, who has spent most of his life in the outdoors hunting, fishing, etc. but yet when you start to talk about the environment he goes off his rocker. He doesn't realize that he is looking at the small scale and we live on a large scale. He thinks that his ecosystem is fine, because he can't see the changes, so he doesn't need to do anything.

I hear you loud and clear

I hear you loud and clear but I think that leaves out a lot of people who live unsustainable lifestyles. It's not only hunting and trapping (although I think that's horribly violent and unneccesary behavior in a place like Oly where plant proteins are readily available), it's single family dwellings, eating meat which has been shown to be more degrading the the environment than driving, and failing to carpool when people go somewhere in their private vehicles. Each of these lifestyle changes is highly attainable but the majority seems to feel entitled to an outdated version of the American Dream. Our planet and our sibling species are suffering because we all fail to acknowledge the impact of our habits on others, especially other animals and the planet.

I do concur

That's just it were stuck on this idea that the American Dream is all about having a large house, atleast one car for everyone, consume everything that you want to consume with no respect for the after effects.

Ever since we brought "Civilisation" to America it has been take take take. We came here unwilling to work with the current tenants (Native Americans). And we are still unwilling to work with each other (all backgrounds), unless there's an angle that we can exploit.

This world is changing the way it has for millions of years, but the difference is this time we have speed up everything we have touched and someday soon it will bite back and hopefully there will still be some of us around how now the story of how things should be done next time. Hopefully it doesn't all end up like "The Canticle for Leibowitz".

May I say that I'm enjoying

May I say that I'm enjoying our correspondence very much :) And it appears that I need to do some exploring in regards to "The Canticle for Leibowitz!"
»

Most definetely

Enjoyment all around, good topics, good thoughts, good words, I am in agreement!

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr., don't remember how I came across it, but nonetheless in my opion it is a good book. I use that term lightly since it does revolve around a post-apocalytic society. It can be funny, sad, heart warming, and blunt. Let me know what you think? Enjoy

Thank you for the

Thank you for the recommendation...I take a recommendation from another Ishmael fan very seriously :) I've got quite a list of reading at present but A Canticle for Liebowitz will definitely go on "priority track." I hope you're settling into Oly well?

Tell me about

Tell me about it, I've got 5 books that I've started and set down, picked up and set down. Someday I'll finish them. Definitely settling in! Currently looking for a small diesel pickup, once we get that life will be a little simplier, more projects will get done, and more time will be spent getting to know our new home. Thank you for asking.
