So, this post has an actual purpose and a secondary purpose.

First, the actual purpose: I have a question. How does one publicize a blog? Bread and Roses used to have a website, and a webmaster, but eventually both fell to wayside. A month or so ago I started a simple blogspot blog to pick up the information slack-I wanted basic information about us available on the internet, essentially. At this point, it's all we've got, and I want to know the best way to get the word out. I guess the obvious course of action would be to use the internet, but is it ridiculous to make a simple flyer and get that out, too? I mean, I want everyone in Olympia to know where to get the scoop, the down-low if you will, on the great little organization I and my compadres put so much effort into. Any ideas, oh wise bloggers?

Secondary purpose: In asking about publicity, I have just publicized! Check us out!

Suggestions

Definitely put out flyers. One idea might be to print up the info on a bookmark shaped piece of thicker paper. Send info to The Olympian. Write up a piece for Works In Progress if you haven't already. Might want to send something in to the TESC and SPSCC papers too. Good luck!

Blog more

You've been kind of quiet the last month or so. If you keep up the blogging, folks will come by.

Definitely blog more often

I agree with Emmett, regular posts make a huge difference to the amount of readers you can pull in.

I'd like to see more specific information...

as someone who goes to your website regularly to answer reference questions. For example, I was recently trying to figure out when your regular meals were served and where (men's guest house?), when the visiting nurse comes, etc. Also, there are many links around on the internet that lead to your old invisible website, so it would be great if you could email those places and give them your updated address as well. I hope you find this helpful! PS- also what Emmett said. Blog more!

Let me help.

A little over three years ago, we transitioned our kitchen services to Catholic Community Services, who now serve meals at the Salvation Army's Plum street location. The men's shelter became The Drexel House after years of lobbying for the expansion, it too is operated by Catholic Community Services.

We now operate a women and family Guest House in the Eastside neighborhood, as well as the Bread and Roses Advocacy Center 1009 4th Ave. We have lots of volunteer opportunities, if you're interested. Please call me at 359.3293 for more details.

This is really helpful...

Thanks, Rob! I was trying to call the advocacy center recently to get the lowdown, but I must have called several times in a row when it was closed.
