"A second Olympia family that doesn't want to sell its land for a city park faces condemnation of its property." that's the lead from this article "Private Land or Public Space?" What is with our local elected leaders? Are they now both anti-homeless and anti-homeowner?

Submitted by bubba z (not verified) on Sun, 02/18/2007 - 5:05pm.there is no "expense of family homes" with this park acquisition..
they are only purchasing undeveloped land..
But the family does not want
Submitted by OperaGirl on Sun, 02/18/2007 - 5:24pm.But the family does not want to sell/lose that land. How about the city buy a couple of lots that are being used to build McMansion's on and turn that into a park instead?

Wait a minute! It would be

This type of legal move by any city or independent government is sad. What's worse is the legal line continues to be blurred as lawyers fight over the definition. It should only be used when it is necessary. Things like access to interstates and Washington highways when there is NO OTHER option. In this case, the city admits the constraint - budgets. Are we to believe the city is really acting in the best interest of residents or just themselves for what they want to accomplish.
I love parks and support the use of them on a weekly basis. But, in reality, we have a good number of parks in our area and to set a goal of having one within a one-mile radius seems lofty. I think we could spend the money much better.

Is this directed to me? I meant that the city could buy some lots that have not been developed yet from the developer or whoever and then turn that into a nice little park - not take someones McMansion. Do I think that would ever happen? No. I was just saying that you would think there would be a way to make a park without taking someones land. That's all. =)
