I'm a part time naturalist. Who am I kidding, I'm no kind of naturalist, but my intro will have to do for the purposes of this post.  Actually, come to think of it, naturalists might be confused with nudists, I'm talking naturalists in sense of J.J. Audobon , famed describer of birds and the reason for the Audubon Society.

It occurs to me that there are very many types of Olympians.  The scientist in me would like to catagorize and describe the variety of Olympians we might encounter in the wild.  So I ask the question, in the sense of a scientific description, just what kind of Olympian are you?

I identify my self as an Old School Olympian, or vetus schola olympian in Latin

The habitat of the Old School Olympian is downtown Olympia.  The Old School Olympian would prefer to buy books at Last Word then at Border's.  The OSO would prefer to drink at the Brotherhood then the Red Robin.  The OSO thinks the homeless are an asset to the community rather than a problem that needs to be eradicated without actually dealing with it.  The OSO prefers reading instead of television, movies instead of  videos.  The OSO likes coffee that costs less then a buck and is sold in places that don't have leather furniture or fireplaces.

You get my drift.  What kind of Olympian are you, maybe we can produce something kin to to the Birds of America so that others can better identify the varieties of Olympians

WAC Olympian myself!

That's wild and crazy. I like downtown too but my natural habitat is to buy my coffee anywhere cheap and flop on the grass in Sylvester Park. I used to love walking around Capital Lake but its a mess right now! The pier is great and has tons of benches. I love that fountain too, the one that shoots diamonds into the sky at night! But I like heading outward to Watershed and Priest Point too.

I love all the dancing and music downtown. Its fun just to creep and listen. And I love street music. I wish we had more of it. I like the cheap shopping also but not for a long while.

We are restricted lately by my recent kidney infection haha. Its doing much better. Loba and I danced for a neighbor in the livingroom last night and fed her bunches of leftover cheesecake. Loba had a slice too.

I think I might be a pink flamingo. I was practising doing deep knee bends one leg at a time last night and showing off for my neighbor. I am working at touching my palms to the floor and doing the splits too. Its really fun! I showed my neighbor how to lift weights too! But she preferred to sit and watch and eat cheese cake. Oh well.

I think I'll close my drapes and work out again. I don't want the neighbors to see how painful it is haha. I described my workout to Nassir on the phone today and he asked about pushups. I'll do them and see how bad I am. I think I'm up to 2 hahahahaha. My shoulders are getting stronger though. I really need heavier weights. I'll break down and use the gym here soon. I'm ready. Tomorrow I have a bazillion errrands to run.

This is my first day without pain killers! Bravo for me! I'm going to have a big fat sale and sell bunches of stuff! Who needs stuff? It is too hard and too expensive to move around. Nope. I do not need stuff. I need to pick a place to sell it. I'll think about that.

Get Well Soon

Christy, it sounds like you're on the mend. Congratulations about getting off the pain-killers. But take it easy on the exercise, especially at first. My most common mistake is overdoing it in the beginning, then I lose interest in keeping it up. No pain no gain is a bunch of bull shit - if you ask me. Sure, there will be soreness, but if you're ever in pain during a workout - it is time to pull back, take it easier, slow down!

Best wishes for your road to recovery.

Easy does it is my recent motto haha

I've been staying very close to home and walking my dog in the parking lot. I dance and work out at home too. My couch is thus nearby haha. But I need to not overtax right now. So I've just been getting friends to give me rides places.

But it is so refreshing not to be spiking fevers. Fevers seriously suck. And I'm putting the pain pills in the medicine cabinet. I don't feel any more pain. I can't drive yet because my antibiotics are marked with a dizzy label. I don't think they make me dizzy, but one can never be too careful. For that reason I have also been walking my dog on the grass haha. That way if I plop and flop, NO head bumping!

I need to go clean up and quit dwaddling. I'm also going to put on a hat and hide my hair haha. Then I'll just throw a little makeup on UNDER the hat and look and feel better haha.

Transplant

I am an Olympia transplant, a non-native Olympia resident. I feel it is important to make that distinction around these parts for some reason. I will never be able to have native pride.

Naturalism in the nude, naturalistic nudity, nudist naturalism. I haven't participated in any, but it does sound interesting. Although I am a transplant, I resonate with the "OSO" scene more than the NSO "scene" (if there is such a thing.) I do like videos - not more than movies - it's just that I don't have to haul myself down to the theatre, well I am movie-attending-lazy I guess (and currently w/o a date.) I prefer the Capitol Theatre. The parks are one of the best things that Olympia has going for it. Favorite parks: Watershed, PPP, Madison Scenic, Grass Lake, McLane (although it isn't a city park), TESC woods, Garfield Nature Trail, Tumwater Overlook (yeah, it's not in Oly), Tumwater Falls (what jurisdiction is this anyway?), Woodruff, oh what the hell I love them all (even the one or two I haven't visited.)

The Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and Mt. Rainer, The Black Hills of Capitol Forest... The community of peace and justice advocates... The unusual and interesting: these are some of the things I have come to appreciate about Olympia.

I'm a beard wearing; bicycle and public transit riding; fog, rain (to a certain point), sunshine after the rain, rainbows, green grass, tall trees appreciating - proud-to-be-Olympian - Olympian.

After working with a number

After working with a number of people who have been in Olympia prior to the opening of The Evergreen State College, I kind of have to disagree with how "Old School Olympian" and "New School Olympian" are defined.

In my experience, a more appropriate categorization would be those who fit into the Olympia mentality prior to The Evergreen State College and those after.

Examining "the Olympia divide" is interesting, though.
