After three weeks of being absent from the radio airwaves, I am making my (triumphant?) return to the radio. A friend and fellow DJ of mine called it a "sandbox" and I thoroughly agree with him. I have all sorts of wonderful music planned for this upcoming Tuesday's show, including a new/old Hasil Adkins 45, Glenda Collins (one of the artists Joe Meek produced extensively), a lovely gospel number called "Heaven's Radio" and another hit beauty from the Khmer Folk and Pop Music collection on Sublime Frequencies. There will be much more, of course.
» "Dark Woods Casino Party" is on KAOS 89.3 FM every Tuesday evening from 9 to 11 p.m. -Domenica

Tonight (Tuesday 12/12) and Wednesday the 13th, there will be public interviews with two candidates for the position of KAOS Development Director. As I stated in my post last week, this position is going to shape the future of KAOS and we need to have people at this public interview to ask questions. We need to find the right person for this very important job.
» It is from 6 to 7 p.m on the third floor of the CAB at The Evergreen State College. Tonight's candidate is Jose Gutierrez Wednesday's is Peter Epperstein. If you have questions, you can call 867-6888. I hope to see you there, Domenica

I just signed on to OlyBlog and it said it was going to be 80 degrees tomorrow and I almost lost control of my bowels. Someone please fix whatever is screwing up the weather info on the side. I don't even want to think of it being 80 degress again!

So, I just recently started getting involved with this year's Olympia Film Festival. I first attended the Film Festival in 2001 when I moved here when I was 18, except I only saw two things: a Fritz Lang movie and a collection of shorts by the Tiny Picture Club. In 2002, I also didn't see much, but that was the first year I first saw All Freakin' Night, which is probably my number one favorite thing about Olympia. 2004 was the first year I got a pass and saw a bunch and this year will be the first that I am involved in helping beyond my volunteer lobby supervisor duties.
» I bring all of this up because I am supremely excited. The movies that have been chosen for this year are AMAZING, but I can't tell you anything, except after what I perceived as a lackluster year previous, this year is going to be great. BUT I CAN'T SAY WHY! ARGH! I couldn't possibly give away what I know.. Some films and events are already posted at www.olympiafilmfestival.org Hooray for monster movies!

I hope this is okay to post. I am having a garage sale tomorrow from 9 to 3 p.m at 1405 Glass Avenue NE, on the eastside of Olympia, off Central St. I will have mostly clothes, music and books. The clothes is mostly on the plus-sized end, with sizes around 12/13/14. It is also quite nice stuff. I hope to see you there.

I have seriously been thinking of quitting my radio show.
» I keep thinking of this in relationship terms. I feel like I have been spurned and ignored while my boyfriend is out drinking all night, never letting me know he cares, while I mope around at home, listening to records, hoping that will cure my sadness. The lovely music isn't enough. I need support and like-minded friends, and those are dwindling rapidly. Why I am talking about this on a public forum? Because I have been a very public person for the last three years, even though I don't talk about personal issues there. My reasons for dissastifaction are topics I don't want to go into on a public forum. Okay, so back to the relationship metaphor. I've loved this guy for years, and I've given everything to him, whenever he needed me to help out, I did, for non-selfish reasons. It was because I thought he was the coolest guy ever. I was proud and giddy in our early days. But now, I am a tortured housewife, clinging to small hopes and indications that maybe, just maybe he still loves me. Maybe things will change and we'll be happy again, maybe, just maybe.

I've been ragging on the sun for weeks and weeks on my radio show and I happy to say that its days are numbered. I am so happy autumn is arriving, like a ship heaving into port. I love having coffee when it is cool outside. I love warm coats and my near all-black wardrobe melding with the day's landscape. I love the rain and air and the bittersweet quality of it all. Autumn also means the Film Festival is coming up, and that makes me happy.
» Today is particularly lovely, and though it is sunny, it is cold and it is as if I can smell the ice off distant mountains on the air. I need to get off the computer and take a proper stroll now.

This upcoming Tuesday night, the 18th, listen to Hello, Olympia on KAOS 89.3 for the annual competition for the crown of Lakefair King. This year's nominees are Pizza T, Josh Bomb, Christine Gregoire (??), and another fellow whose name I don't remember who won the mud races. Make sure to vote from amongst the nominees by calling (360) 867-5267 between 8 and 9 p.m on Hello, Olympia. I believe the Lakefair King competition on Hello, Olympia has been going on for years.
» My show will be afterwards and I will be joined by Austin band Peter and the Wolf. What an exciting night it will be. |
