The Powerline Blog, a conservative blog, has nominated our very own Olympian as the worst newspaper in the country. At first I thought it was funny, because, who across the country would vote for the Olympian as the worst when there were much larger and more notorious newspapers like the Boston Globe, Washington Post and LA Times to vote for.

But, the reasons for the Zero being on the list ticked me off:
The Olympian (Olympia, Washington): MHJ: “From their editorial about how good it is that the Governor is going to direct the employees of the State Department of Transportation to cooperate with the State Auditor on taxpayer-directed performance audits, to their choice of letters to the editor, the Olympian begs for an editorial staff with common sense and analytical skills.”
Sigh. For all the reasons to not like the Olympian, these really aren't them. So, lets vote for the Palm Beach Post as a sort of anti-Olympian.

And, by the way, the Olympian is our newspaper. Only we can make fun of our newspaper.

Vote here, down on the right hand side.

I Voted

I voted like you said to, Emmett. But it looks like it's going to take a lot of olybloggers coming together in order to save the grace of our home town daily.

BTW, I think that "powerline" website is run by neocons.

This a Yes, And situation

If righties and lefties come to together to vote the "O" the worst paper, then perhaps that will send a message to management. I think we should engage in conversation about the Olympian with them and highlight why we believe it's the worst paper. They may not agree with us on principle, but they may agree with us on the basic fact that The Olympian is bad journalism in general.

I just have a hard time not voting against The "O". They badmouth our downtown every chance they get, without even attempting to be a part of any meaningful solutions. Let's not get caught up in partisanship, let's call a spade a spade.

Turf

I have to vote for the Palm Beach Post as worst newspaper because of that social diary thingie they have. Also because I'm defending turf and believe only us local yokels get to bad mouth The Olympian.

Plus, we are giving the Palm Beach Post some added traffic, which might balance out the fact that we all the way over here are voting against them.

I urge us all to vote against this:

Palm Beach Post pulling away

Last night the Olympian was up on the post 105 to 92, but this morning the Post has made its move, now up 379 to 118. Overall leader is the Seattle PI. Go Post!

By the way, another image from the Posts' Social Column. Fake hippies populate their social scene:

At least you can say the Olympian would put really hippies in the paper.

man, those were the days

Before Bush, before the war, when being a lefty in Olympia meant smashing tvs... Ah, the innocent days of 1999.

I thought the police

I thought the police department should have taken action during that protest. Kind of disappointing to read in your local paper that traffic is allowed to be tied up for an entire afternoon because someone lacks the necessary anatomy to make the tough decisions.

Smashing Televisions

If only they weren't so toxic. I know! Let's have an olyblog get together. Norm and OlyCop can provide the firearms and we can round up some televisions and we can just blast away!

I don't know...

Being voted the "nation's worst newspaper" might just be the wake up call they need to up the quality of journalism and maybe even gain some community awareness. If I took the time to vote I'd have to vote The Olympian as the "nation's worst newspaper". I'm sure there are worse but I've never run across one yet. Why do you all think we need and enjoy reading Olyblog? One reason might be cuz WE can't get it this good in print.

Not if its such a right wing blog as the Powerline. I think they'd only get the message that they should improve if it was from a local group, with a well thought out argument, or an industry group. Or advertisers.

Right...

Cuz they've taken so many hints from this group. Not to mention ignoring local businesses and people when called and filled in on interesting local newsworthy items.

You are right... It probably won't help. They don't listen to anyone!

I've never had a problem

I've never had a problem with the daily O. Maybe I don't read the same parts that you folks do.
