Ignorant Movie Review: For Your ConsiderationResponse to title: A playful title which immediately engages its audience, it demands explanation in the guise of an offering. Are we being asked to consider it for an award? a spot in Cinema's Pantheon? as something other, or more than, a film? Damnit, I want to know! Response to curbside poster: Sweet! I love the cast and I love Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show. My expectation for cinematic goodness suddenly soared. I am fully prepared for some Satire with Hollywood in its sights. Response post-credits: Well, I'm not disappointed. While I wouldn't call the film genius, I would definitely refer to it as an excellent Satire. Aside from the people who normally get shit on (stage workers, editors, etc.), just about every aspect of, and job in, Hollywood is gleefully stereotyped and mocked. The make-up artists, actors, directors, producers "suits", writers, agents and culture of solipsism are all subjected to the same camera that typically exports their product. It is, at times, almost painfully fun to watch and in the spirit of The Day of the Locust, the Hollywood facade is laid bare. I would recommend this movie to all but the most bitter and cranky of people, and I wouldn't hesitate to take a kid to see it, either (if only as a moral lesson to stay away from Hollywood). Rating: 4.35 out of 5 Oly Stubbies. Film Haiku: An Award in name, "the painted whore next to him." Botox smile frown.
