Ignorant Movie Review: loudQUIETloud Response to title: Well, I like the title. Maybe…a movie about the aural experience? Response to curbside poster: The title makes more sense now; it’s a Rockumentary about the Pixies reunion tour in 2004. I feel laden with false knowledge going in; I’m aware of the Pixies because so many people around me were/are fans, but I seem to have been in some kind of pop culture force field when they were initially together so I don't really know anything about them at all. An example of my ignorance here: I walk into The Brotherhood between movies and get a chance to briefly talk with Rob Richards who, in the course of conversation, asks which movie is at Response post-credits: I can understand how, if you’re a fan of the Pixies, this would be one of the greatest Rockumentaries ever. The film is candid, provides the audience with the humanity outside of the fame, feels to be devoid of pretension and follows a nice narrative from the beginning to the end of their tour. As a non-fan, I feel like I’m missing a lot, though: I would be willing to wager that the title is Pixies referential and I feel like the viewer relationship with the band members is assumed rather than built. I’d say this is a "must see" if you’re a fan of the Pixies, a "should see" if you really like Rocumentaries or are curious about some pop culture you missed out on, and an "only go to the other movie" if you could care less about the aforementioned three criteria but want to support our local independent theater. Rating: 3.3 out of 5 Oly Stubbies. Film Haiku: Kids with instruments

"It is a rare mind indeed that can render the hitherto non-existent blindingly obvious. The cry 'I could have thought of that' is a very popular and misleading one, for the fact is that they didn't, and a very significant fact it is too."
As a long time Pixies fan
Submitted by go econo on Sat, 11/25/2006 - 2:40am.As a long time Pixies fan (and Frank Black and Breeders), loudQuietloud was a little depressing...People grow apart, people get weird, people try to recreate the magic and make some money. What I loved, though, were all the young people who were so totally into the band, you know, twenty years later there are these super young new super fans. That's their saving grace. I'll take the Alibini-produced albums on 4AD instead (since I'm not-so-super-young).
