Ignorant Movie Review:  Iraq in Fragments

Response to title:  Double entendre?  The current state of U.S. occupied Iraq as well to the format of the film?  I wonder if they'll tell the tale using a different-parts-of-the-same-whole approach.

Response to curbside poster:  Yes.  Iraq is indeed in fragments.  That's what I get from this poster.

Response post-credits:  Kurdistan North, Sunni Baghdad and Shia South, Iraq suffers at the seams of its fragments.  The documentary takes a Cinéma vérité approach to spinning this narrative; every day people flesh out the viewer's perspectives of modern day Iraq, giving us the fragments of the former whole.

If you're adverse to war documentaries on account of their often graphic violence, this may be the documentary for you.  The violence in this film is perceived, felt in the lives affected, rather than seen first hand.  It's an old narrative art, making real through reference rather than explicit visuals, and this film does an excellent job achieving this end.  It is a fantastic anti-war propaganda vehicle, and I hope that everyone sees it.

Rating:  4.2 out of 5 Oly Stubbies.
